Dr Nnamdi Nwinyi, the ‘Zone E’ Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has decorated 32 officers of the Abia command promoted in 2019 with their new ranks.
Addressing the personnel of the command at a colourful ceremony in Umuahia on Tuesday, Nwinyi admonished the officers to see their new ranks as a challenge for greater commtment and dedication to duty.

He said: “Your new rank imposes a lot of responsibilities on you.
To whom much is given more work is expected.
“The reward for hard work is more work; so the corps expects more work and greater commitment to duty from you.”
He further advised them to discharge their duties, especially the core mandates of the corps, diligently and efficiently.

“I urge you to lead by example,” Nwinyi said, adding that they should leave good legacies for their subordinates to emulate.
He warned them not to abuse the privileges of their new position nor indulge in acts of indiscipline.
According to him, the corps has zero tolerance for corruption and indiscipline and anyone found wanting would be made to face appropriate sanctions.
Mr Vincent Ogu, Abia Commandant of the corps, said that the promotion of the officers was based on merit, integrity and humility in service delivery.
“Hardwork pays. Redundancy is a canckerworm that can destroy ones future.
“The rank you are wearing on your shoulder is a reflection of your intelligence. So you are expected to justify your elevation,” Ogu said.
He encouraged those who were not promoted not to lose hope but work harder to earn theirs.
“Our Commandant-General, Abdullahi Muhammadu, has a policy of rewarding harwork.
“So anyone that works hard will be rewarded,” Ogu said.
He further advised them not to be demoralised or allow apathy to influence their disposition to duty.
In a vote of thanks, one of the decorated officers, DCC Fidelis Ozurumba, expressed thanks to God and the commandant-general for making their promotion possible.
Ozurumba promised that they would do the utmost to justify their new ranks and confidence reposed in them. (NAN)
