Fireboy DML, Wizkid sets Record at the Headies Awards
Nigerian artistes, Adedamola Adefolahan popularly known as ”Fireboy DML” set a record of being nominated in nine categories at the 14th Headies Awards in Lagos.
The Headies, is a musical award show which recognises outstanding achievements by Nigerian artistes in the Nigerian music industry.
This year’s award titled: ”Explore”, a virtual event held on Sunday, rewarded works released between July 2019 and September 2020.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Fireboy DML who was nominated in nine categories went home with five awards, the highest feat achieved after Wande Coal in 2010.
Fireboy DML won the awards for Best R and B Single, Best Pop Album of the year, Headies Revelation of the year, Best R and B Album of the year and the Album of the year.
Similarly, Ayodeji Balogun (Wizkid) won the awards for the Viewers’ Choice Award with the song ”Joro” and also the Artiste of the year thereby officially becoming the artiste with the most Headies Awards.
He now has 11 awards, after him is Mode 9 with 9 awards and Innocent Idibia (Tuface) follows with eight plaques.
Wizkid, have always been on the nomination list of the Headies Awards in various categories since he announced his presence at the awards in 2010 also won two awards.
Patrick Imohiosen, known as ”DJ Neptune” also won two awards with his song ‘Nobody’. Best Pop Single and Song of the Year where he featured Joeboy and Mr Eazi.
The Next Rated Award, the most coveted category was won by Stanley Omah Didia popularly known as ”Omah Lay” who would be presented with a car.
Highlife legend, King Sunny Ade was inducted into the Headies Hall of Fame while Timaya and Eedris Abdulkareem received special recognition awards for their impact on the music industry.
Other winners at the show were; Brymo who won the Best Recording of the year with Ozymandias and Director K won Best Music Video with 1Milli by Davido.
Producer of the Year was won by Pheelz with Billionaire by Teni; Niniola won Best Female Vocal Performance with Addicted while Praiz won in the male category with ‘Under the Sky’.
Mayorkun won Best Street Hop with ”Geng” and Bad Boy Timz won The Rookie of the year Award.
Ladipoe won the award for Best Collabo with ‘Know You’ where he featured Simi; Morlogo won Best Alternate Song with ”I Wonder” and The Best Rap Single was won by Falz with ”Bop Daddy”.
Best Alternate Album was won by Cavemen with ”Roots”, Songwriter of the Year was Simisola Ogunleye with ”Duduke” and Lyricist on the Roll was IllBliss.
South African singer, Master KG bagged African Artiste Recognition Award and AQ won the Best Rap Album with ”God’s Engineering”.
NAN reports that Davido and Wurld also had seven nominations each at the Headies Awards while Burna boy had six.
The event which was hosted by Nigerian comedian, Bovi Ugboma and Media Personality, Nancy Isime witnessed performances from Stoneboi, Chike, Alpha P, Olakira, Zinoleesky, Jamopyper amongst others. (NAN)

BBNaija’s Queen Mercy Confirms crash of Her One-year Marriage
Big Brother Naija reality show star, Queen Mercy Atang, has finally confirmed the crash of her one-year marriage.
The single mother of one got married to David Oyekanmi in March 2024 amid a public dispute with her baby daddy, skit maker Lord Lamba.
A few months after their marriage, Mercy sparked marital crisis rumours after she unfollowed her husband on Instagram and deleted their wedding pictures.
Debunking the speculation, the BBNaija Shine Ya Eye housemate explained, “I was trying to take my marriage off social media and reduce some of the things I put out there.
”However, in a new development on Wednesday, she finally confirmed her separation from David while addressing her marital status in an Instagram comment.
Queen Mercy had shared a new picture of herself from actress Mercy Aigbe’s mother’s burial last week.
Commenting on the photo, a fan, @makachrist, asked, “Queen, hope you are still married because asa, you are too beautiful to be single.”
The reality star replied, “Single and unavailable.”

It’s Chaotic, Fireboy on Relationship, Dating
Nigerian Afrobeats singer Adedamola Adefolahan, popularly known as Fireboy DML, has opened up about his dating life, revealing that it is chaotic.
Speaking in a recent episode of the Reprezent podcast, the movie star said the messy nature of Lagos dating scene inspired his hit song, ‘Ashawo.
’“In my song ‘Ashawo’ I was trying to paint a picture of what the dating scene is like in Lagos where I live.
It’s a mess,” he explained.On his relationship experience, Fireboy said, “It is chaotic. But I thrive with girls. When I’m under pressure, I usually find balance in girls.”
Fireboy has previously revealed that he was looking forward to suffering a heartbreak in a bid to get inspiration to make more genuine music.
The singer has not publicly confirmed a girlfriend or any romantic relationship

Dagrin Influenced Me, Other Rappers – Olamide
Ace rapper Olamide has revealed the role that late Indigenous rapper, Dagrin, played in his career.
Speaking on the impacts of Dagrin in a recent video broadcast, the YBNL boss admitted that the late rapper influenced him and a lot of other rappers.
Olamide revealed that he listens to Dagrin’s critically acclaimed album, ‘C.
E. O’ for inspiration whenever he is experiencing “writer’s block”.He said, “Dagrin’s ‘C.E.O’ album is a timeless project. That’s the only rap album almost everybody in the south west can sing word for word. Dagrin influenced a lot of rappers, whenever we need motivation, we would go and listen to his album.”
Dagrin died in an auto crash in April 2010.
His music became more popular after his death.
