Ogun APC Holds Parallel Congresses

The All Progressives Congress (APC) at the weekend held two parallel Congresses to elect its officers.
The faction loyal to Gov Dapo Abiodun held its own, at the MKO Abiola international stadium while the faction loyal to Senator Ibikunle Amosun, held its own in front of the Ake palace in Abeokuta
The Dapo Abiodun led faction’s Congress was held under very peaceful environment while that of Amosun was characterised by chaos.
Heavy gunshots on two occasions, greeted the parallel State Congress organized by APC members loyal to Senator Amosun at the event held at the Ake Palace Pavilion, Abeokuta, the state capital.
The first disruption came shortly after security operatives, who had earlier sealed off the Pavilion, allowed Amosun’s loyalists into the premises after an alleged “order from the above”.
Caught in the melee of the disturbances were the current Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Arc. Olamilekan Adegbite; the Senator representing Ogun West Senatorial district, Tolu Odebiyi and the governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement, APM in the 2019 election in the State, Adekunle Akinlade.
The development left party faithfuls, who had thronged the venue in their hundreds to scamper for safety, even as police struggled to restore normalcy.
The second gunshots witnessed at the venue however, occurred after a man, who identified himself as Honourable Gbenga Opaleye, who claimed to be the Chairman appointed by the APC’s National Secretariat to monitor the Congress in Ogun State announced winners of the parallel party congress.
At the end of the crisis, several vehicles were destroyed, while some party faithful also sustained varying degrees of injuries.

Group Unveils Two Special International Reports on Rights, Abuses in eastern Nigeria

A Nigeria Human rights group, International Society for Civil liberties and rule of law (Intersociety), have unveiled two special international reports on rights, abuses and violation in the eastern Nigeria, accusing the Nigeria Military and other security forces like police crack squad, DSS, sub State actor killer vigilantes and killer government task forces.
The two special international reports titled “Nigeria: “Ocean of innocent blood flowing in the east” and “Human rights made in Nigeria” were unveiled during a media conference organized by Intersociety in Enugu.
The board Chairman (Intersociety) Emeka Umeagbalasi, unveiling the books said that the two special international reports are built on documented reports, dating back to 2015 or before then, noting that compilation and computation started since middle of May 2024 (past seven months), using in depth research and investigation skills and techniques.
Umeagbalasi explained that the book ” Ocean of innocent blood flowing in the east” which has 282 pages is a catalogue of how officers and personnel of the armed forces ( army, air force and navy) the police, DSS, joined by the paramilitaries and killer vigilantes used ” IPOB/ESN/BIAFRA terrorism as a pretext to secretly massacre 22,500 unarmed civilians and openly killed 9,800 others (totalling over 32,300) in the past nine years and four months (August 2015- Dec 2024) of military siege and terror in the east.
“Tens of thousands were unlawfully detained and tortured, over 6000 blindfolded or face -bagged and bundled at late night from the east and dumped uninvestigated and untried in secret military locations and prisons in seven northern states of Nigeria, Kogi, Nassarawa, Benue, Kaduna, Zamfara and FCT (Abuja) inclusive of thousands dumped to die or subjected to kangaroo trials inside WAWA cantonment in Nigeria State”.
He further explained that the book “Human rights made in Nigeria ” is a compilation of relevant, available local, regional and international human rights, humanitarian aid universal human rights, rule of law compliant legal provisions and safeguards regulating the lawful and unlawful conducts and activities of armed citizens in Nigeria or any part thereof, including armed state actors and armed non State actors and their commanders, leaders, aiders and abettors. He noted that the two special international reports are given out free of charge.
Intersociety in their two special international reports therefore gave 76 recommendations to the government of Nigeria, armed forces and police high command which among them were: Carrying out comprehensive investigations into cases of extra judicial killings and unlawful execution in eastern Nigeria in the past nine years and four months including cases involving torture and other cruel treatment, disappearance of dead bodies of victims of torture.
Abolish and prohibit as a matter of uttermost immediacy all military, police and paramilitary roadblock and custody (barracks) extortions and their racketeering (daily returns) in the South East and South South. Also prohibits all forms of commercialization and monetization of arrest, detention, custodial bail and criminal investigation and prosecution.
Dismantle all military and police roadblocks or checkpoints on all south east and South South roads and have them replaced with CCTV cameras manned by ICT trained police detectives and trackers/monitors and others.

Enugu Flags-off Training Programme for Farmers on Livestock Production

In its effort to ensure food security in the state, the Enugu State government has recently flagged-off the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support, L-PRES, programme on the training of farmers in the state on livestock production.
Performing the ceremony at the Master Skills Development and Service Ltd, in Agbani, Nkanu West LGA of the state, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Agro Industrialisation, Hon.
Patrick Ubru who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Victor Ngwu said the programme was in line with Governor Peter Mbah’s promise to eradicate hunger, unemployment and ensure zero headcount poverty index in the state.According to him, the workshop would expose the participants to knowledge on how to maximize production, deal with any challenges that may arise in the course of operating their farms, ensuring proper management and production of sufficient protein for the state.
Speaking earlier, the State Project Coordinator of L-PRES, Dr. Ifeyinwa Nnajieze described L-PRES as a project aimed at developing objectives to improve livestock productivity, resilience and commercialization of selected value chains, while ensuring economic diversification.
According to her, L-PRES is a body sponsored by the World Bank, federal and state governments to ensure food sufficiency, while remaining resilient in the fight against food insecurity.
She further extoled the Enugu State governor, Dr Peter Mbah for the support his administration has been giving to the farmers, especially those in the livestock space who often undertake trainings and workshops, noting that Mbah’s vision to grow the state’s GDP from $4.4 billion to $30 billion, eradicate hunger and poverty in the state cannot be realized without being intentional about agriculture.
Dr. Nnajieze recalled that the Enugu State Government in collaboration with the National Animal Production Research Institute, NAPRI had recently sponsored the training of 30 persons, most of which were the lecturers from the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) to Zaria, Kaduna State, for a two-weeks training on artificial insemination and the use of modern AI equipment to enhance animal productivity.
On his part, the consultant and trainer at the Master Skills Development and Service Ltd, Prof. Benjamin Marire applauded Governor Mbah for his support to the farmers in the state, describing him as a man who knows his onions in the areas of leadership, empowerment and equipping of the people with the much needed resources and knowledge to embrace the agricultural revolution.
According to him, the training will empower the livestock farmers to make input on their farms, ensuring food security and taking care of the protein needs of the state, while maintaining that human development which the state has undertaken is a great tool in economic revolution.

FCTA Builds Two Multi Event Center

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) yesterday said it has concluded arrangements to build two multi-event sports centers in Abuja.
The acting Executive Secretary (ES) of Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Richard Yunana Dauda, stated this while briefing journalists after the Executive meeting of FCT in Abuja.
The meeting that was chaired by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike was attended by all mandate Secretaries, management staff amongst others.
He said two companies were considered for the contract and they have been awarded accordingly.
The ES however did not mention the name of the two companies and how much the contracts were awarded.
The Mandatory Secretary for Transportation, Mandate Secretary, Transportation Secretariat, Dr. Chinedum Elechi, who also spoke at the Exco meeting, said the FCT Exco is also greedy to renew the contract of the security agency handling the security of the rail line because of how expensive the equipment are.
He emphasised how important the contract is for the security of the operation of the metro train. “Because if one single cable is vandalized, it will distort the operations for a long time. That is why it became imperative for the contract to be renewed between 2024 up to 2026. It’s a two-year cycle. And so that is what we arrived at and EXCO approved the contract”.
