We have zero Tolerance for Impersonation, Malpractice says JAMB Registrar

Prof Ishaq Oloyede, Registrar, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, (JAMB), on Wednesday, said the series of measures introduced to curb impersonation and examination malpractices had started yielding positive results
Oloyede made the assertion in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, while delivering the 10th Annual lecture of the Forum of Heads of Federal Government Establishments In Nigeria, (Ekiti State chapter).
The topic of his lecture was “Value Reorientation For Effective Service Delivery : JAMB Perspectives”
Oloyede said some of the digital based reform measures were tailored toward the sustenance of the board’s zero tolerance to impersonation, malpractices and other forms of illegality and irregularities.
According to him, such measures as the inclusion of the National Identify Number (NIN), the live monitoring of examination registration as well as the adoption of Central Processing System in admission placements were part of this reform process.
The JAMB boss said he started the board’s reform efforts within the board through the introduction of special welfare package and incentive for the workers.
According to him, such measure remained the best platform to make public servants shy away from corruption and other sharp practices.
He said that no worker would choose to remain indolent, disloyal and unproductive, if his working environment was appealing.
This, Oloyede said, was already being practicalised in JAMB, where workers at the headquarters now enjoyed free meal, on daily basis, among several other mouth-watery incentives.
He also blamed various cases of fraudulent practices in schools, especially during external examinations, on too much emphasis on paper qualifications by authorities when engaging people for employment.
It is on record that the Professor of Arabic Jurisprudence, brought JAMB to national limelight, when the Board, which had hitherto been remitting to the Federal Government coffers, a cumulative sum of less than N50million in 39 years, suddenly remitted N7.8b in 2007 alone.
In addition the board had also between then and now, payed operating surplus of N20.7billion average to government.
Oloyede was represented at the occasion by Mrs. Mabel Agbebaku, the Director, Quality Assurance at JAMB Headquarters.
He said the innovations had not only shored up annual money generated by the board, but also eased out bad eggs from the agency.
“Any practice that aims at compromising the integrity of examinations pose a great danger to the collective hopes of the citizenry and the developmental aspirations of the nation.
“As the board is investing a large chunk of its resources in the fight against examination infractions, government and other stakeholders alike must also show increased commitment to this fight.
“This is because of the threats posed not only to the educational system, but also to national development.
“Some of the reasons for the widespread report of academic cheating might not be unconnected with the undue emphasis placed on paper qualifications and the desperation for professional courses such as Medicine, Law, Accountancy etc,”he said.
Oloyede said the board’s constant efforts to deploy international best practices, Computer Based Testing, (CBT) was employed as the mode of examination delivery in the conduct of its exams in recent past.
He said that this innovation had helped to reduce malpractices and irregularities to the barest.
Oloyede accused some operators of private CBT Centres of complicity in encouraging malpractices during UTME Exams, warning them to desist henceforth or be ready to face the consequences.
The JAMB boss said that many of the CBT Centres are in the habit of collaborating with both parents and schools to earn underserving grades.
“Some of them even go as far as allowing the use of one person’s biometrics to register multiple candidates and also use different person’s photograph to register a candidate.”
The Special Guest of Honour on the occasion, Gov. Kayode Fayemi, who was represented by the Head of Service, Mrs. Peju Babafemi, commended the forum for coming up with the idea of organising the annual lecture, and promised government’s continued support.
He described the topic of the lecture as apt, saying “the continuing debate on the pervading moral decadence in the society has resonated, in no small measure, the concept of Value Reorientation in public domain.
“Therefore, the significance and aptness of your lecture, titled: Value Reorientation for Effective Service Delivery: JAMB Perspective” cannot be overemphasised
“JAMB has indeed demonstrated this ideals of value re-orientation, as evident in its various reformations as well as giant stride in terms of increased remittances to the coffees of the Federal Government”.
Earlier in his welcome address, Mr James Famurewa, the Chairman of Ekiti chapter of the Forum, explained that the annual lecture, was conceptualised as a veritable and strategic platform to educate and enhance the capacity federal civil servants in the state.
Also speaking, Chairman of the occasion, Mrs. Janet Olufunmilayo Adesubokan, remarked that members of the Forum in Ekiti had all been fulfilling the dreams and aspirations of the Federal Government at the State level, to the admiration of the host public.
“It is certain and evident that through this type of annual lecture, the body has been able to live to expectations, especially in the area of educating and creating the needed awareness on activities of the Federal Government”. (NAN)

Afiz Oluwatoyin Ogun through the Head of Press and Public Relations of the Fund, Thomas Ngor made this known in a statement signed and made available to Newsmen at weekend in Jos the Plateau State capital. He noted that the development has positioned the ITF among six other centres across Nigeria that have received similar approvals as signed by the Chief Executive Officer of City and Guilds, Kirstie Donnelly.
Dr. Ogun maintained that the approval also indicated that the ITF could conduct examinations for Level 2 Diploma in Engineering in Electrical and Electronics Technology and Maintenance Technology, Level 2 Diploma in House Keeping services, Food Preparation and Culinary Art, Foundation Certificate in Basic Electronic Engineering and Basic Plumbing.
Others include Level 2 in ICT Systems and Principles, Level 3 ICT Systems and Principles, Level 2 Diploma in Bricklaying, Level 2 IVQ in IT Systems Support and Level 3 IVQ Advanced Diploma in IT Systems support.

The DG further explained the significance of the approval thus; ”this approval is significant as it will enable Nigerian Artisans to gain internationally recognised qualifications and potentially up opportunities for jobs worldwide, thereby positively impacting the poverty and unemployment situation in the country.
“It also aligns with the ITF mission to set and evaluate Training Standards as well as provide need based Human Capital interventions in line with global best practices.
“It is also especially crucial for the Skill-Up Artisans (SUPA), which is a programme implemented by the ITF for the Federal Government to train, retrain, certify and licence Nigerian artisans to international standards.
“SUPA aims to enhance the employability of artisans both locally and internationally by providing access to internationally recognised certifications thereby fostering self-reliance”, noting that apart from City and Guilds, ITF is currently interacting with international certification bodies like Alberk QA and others for similar certification.
Dr Ogun stressed that “we believe that if our efforts come to fruition, Nigeria will become a major exporter of skilled manpower alongside countries like India, China and Indonesia, which will in turn earn Nigeria foreign exchange.
“Already, the ITF is in communication with some Embassies and foreign missions to determine their artisanal needs to accommodate them in training under the Skill-Up Artisans Programme,” he stated

OAU Management Raises the Alarm as Student Goes Missing

From Ayinde Akintade, Osogbo
The authorities of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, have involved the Osun State Command of the Nigerian Police in its search for a female student of the institution who has been missing for four days.
A release by the Public Relations Officer of the University, Abiodun Olarewaju, stated that the student, identified as Dorcas Oseghale, of the Department of Chemistry with Matric number: CHM/2021/165, was last seen on the evening of August 6, 2025 at about 8:00pm.
When Dorcas, who resides at Adesanmi House, Ibadan Road, Ile-Ife, said that she was going out to buy food in front of the students’ village, along Ede road axis of the University, did not return on time, her roommate then made several attempts to reach her on phone but surprisingly discovered that her two lines were not reachable.
According to Olarewaju: “at around 3:00pm on August 7, 2025, a report of a missing female student was intercepted on a students’ social media platform and the Security Unit of the University started tracking the conversation around the incident. But around 6:10pm on the same day, a group of students from the Department of Chemistry, in search of the missing student, alongside a female student (Akinkuade Omobolanle Beatrice), from the Department of Agricultural Extension, identified as her roommate, reported a case of a missing student at the Security Unit of the University.
Considering the complexity of the case and its limitations in terms of human and material resources, the Security Unit of the University then detailed three of its personnel to lead the students and report its preliminary findings to the Nigerian Police, which have enough manpower with sound professional and technical expertise to unravel the mystery surrounding the “disappearance” of the student, for further investigation.
Meanwhile, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Adebayo Simeon BAMIRE, has lauded the students of the University for being their brothers’ and sisters’ keeper, thanking them for quickly noticing that one of them is missing and promptly reporting the same to the appropriate quarters. The Vice Chancellor then appealed to the Police and other security agencies to do all within their power to help find the missing student.
Bamire also appealed to anybody who may have useful information that can assist the security agencies on the whereabouts of Dorcas Oseghale to report to the nearest police station or the security unit of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.
