From Marcel Duru, Owerri

Archbishop of Orlu Diocese (Anglican Communion), Most Rev.  Bennett Christopher  Okoro, has urged the  Federal Government to reshuffle all commands of the nation’s Armed Forces and to  restructure  them in such a manner as to accommodate all the  six geo-political zones of the country.

This, he argued would tremendously stem the rising tempo of insecurity in the land and also attract interested investors that  would  fast-tract the  nation’s wobbling economy.

Dr Okoro who spoke exclusively to the DAILY ASSET shortly after the ordination of Deacons and Priests and  commissioning of Catechist held at the Cathedral Church of SS Peter and John the Divine, Nkwerre said “our security situation is precarious and with this, no foreign investor can come here and invest.

It is therefore, imperative for President Muhammadu Buhari to reshuffle the command of the nation’s armed forces in such a manner  as to include  each of the  six geo-political  zones”.

The cleric warned against the establishment of cattle colonies and ranches in any part of the south – East, stressing that  grazing by Fulani  herdsmen was alien to the Igbo.

While calling on President Buhari to appoint seasoned technocrats into his cabinet to move the nation forward, Archbishop Okoro also sued for the speedy completion of construction work on the second  Niger Bridge to ease the transportation difficulties facing commuters which he  noted would promote commerce across the  length and breath of the country.

He also, renewed his  plea for the release of Leah  Sharibu, the young Christian girl still being held by the Boko Haram sect since 2018.

The Archbishop who administered the oath of not belonging to secret society by the deacons and catechists gave the new testament, the letter of order and licence to the deacons saying “take the authority to do the work of a deacons in the church of God committed to your charge”.

Rt. Rev. Daniel Nkemjika Olinya- of the Eha Mufu Diocese, Enugu  State in his sermon at the service advised Christians to shun  unwarranted blackmail, character assassination and cheap propaganda against their priests, noting that such unholy character  exposes the church  to public ridicule, hate, contempt and disdain.

The retreatant and preacher reminded the priests of the challenging tasks inherent in their vocation as disciples of Christ and enjoined them to gird their loins to meet those challenges.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade disclosed this to newsmen while parading the suspects at the Command’s headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan on Monday.

Ayanlade said the exhibits recovered from the suspects were five guns—including a revolver pistol, a Beretta pistol, a pump-action gun, and a locally made cut-to-size pistol—along with four cutlasses.

He said that the arrest formed part of the ongoing investigations and operation of the Command in ridding Oyo State of crime and criminal activities, especially violent crime.

He disclosed that one of the arrested suspects was a very bright physics student of an institution in the state, who had won several awards, but turned out to be the leader of a cult group, Eiye confraternity.

The PPRO said that the student was arrested together with his colleagues in possession of a firearm, a cutlass, and ammunition.

He said the leader of the suspected armed robbers had earlier been arrested, prosecuted and currently in a correctional facility.

Ayanlade said that the suspected armed robbers were arrested as a result of painstaking intelligence gathering with the support and collaboration of members of the public.

He said that the suspects were arrested in their various hideouts by operatives of the command monitoring unit.

One of the armed robbery suspects, a 35-year-old, told journalists that his gang operated with cutlasses to instill fear in their victims before snatching their mobile phones.

The suspect said that the gang had snatched a total of 10 expensive phones, which were eventually sold for between N40,000 and N50,000.

Also speaking in an interview, the suspected cultist student said he was initiated as the leader of the group a year ago after graduating from an institution in Apata area of Ibadan.
