Buhari Appoints New CSO After Villa Rout
By Mathew Dadiya, Abuja
Two weeks after the gunshot debacle at the Villa, President Muhammadu Buhari has sacked his Chief Personal Security Officer (CPSO), Commissioner of Police (CP) Abdulkarim Dauda and approved the appointment of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Aliyu Abubakar Musa, as his CPSO.
Dauda’s redeployment May not be unconnected with the brouhaha that ensued between the CPSO and the First Lady’s Aide de Camp that led to a gunshot at the Villa.
But Senior Special Assistant to the President, Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, in a statement issued on Monday, said Musa’s appointment followed the redeployment of his predecessor, CP Abdulkarim Dauda.
DCP Musa, from Nigerian Police Force Zone 5, Benin City, as his last station, hails from Niger State.
Recall that penultimate Thursday night, an incident occurred in the Presidential Villa, where the First Lady’s Aide-de-camp, Usman Shugaba, fired gunshots in an attempt to force President Buhari’s Special Assistant, Sabiu Yusuf, into self -isolation over COVID-19 fears.
The fiasco started when Yusuf, the President’s nephew, returned to his residence at the precincts of the Presidential Villa, just outside the Pilot gate, after a trip to Lagos, where he had gone to meet his wife who had just delivered a new baby.
Citing COVID-19 protocols, the First Lady, Aisha Buhari and three of her children, Zahra, Halima and Yusuf, accompanied by some of her security aides led by the Aide-de-Camp, on Thursday night went to the Yusuf’s residence and demanded that he should self-isolate for 14 days, so as not to endanger the first family.
The altercation led to at least two gunshots being fired within the seat of power. Shugaba, and other security aides are already in detention after the ensuing melee, on the order of the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu.
The Police High Command is reported to have set up investigation panel made up of DIGs and AIGs to get to the root of what happened and why shots were fired in the State House.
Mrs. Buhari had, on Friday, called on the IG to immediately release her aides who were reportedly detained based on the orders of the Chief Security Officer to the President, Idris Kassim.
She said her call for their release was in order to avoid putting their lives in danger or exposure to COVID-19 while in their custody.
The President had in a statement by his spokesman, said that the arrested officials were being investigated and the law should be allowed to take its course.

A 28-year-old school bus driver, Onome Ughagha, has been arrested by operatives of the Delta State Police Command for allegedly kidnapping and sexually assaulting a 14-year-old female student in Sapele.
The suspect allegedly demanded and collected ₦503,000 in ransom from the student’s father before abandoning her along Oton Road, Sapele.
The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement in Warri on Sunday.
According to Edafe, the incident was reported at the Sapele Area Command on October 20, 2026, by the victim’s father, who alleged that the suspect abducted his daughter while she was preparing to leave for school.
“The suspect subsequently contacted him (the father), demanded ₦503,000 and threatened to kill the minor if the ransom was not paid,” the statement added.
The police said the girl was abandoned along Oton Road after the ransom was paid and later reunited with her family in a traumatised condition, with indications that she had been sexually assaulted.
Following the report, operatives of the Sapele Area Command commenced an investigation, while the victim was taken to a medical facility for examination and treatment.
The school principal and vice-principal were also invited for questioning as the police intensified efforts to apprehend the suspect, who had reportedly abandoned the school bus and fled.
Edafe said the operatives, acting on credible intelligence, traced Ughagha to his hideout in the Ajimele area of Sapele, where he was arrested on October 23, 2026.
The suspect reportedly confessed to his involvement in the crime during preliminary interrogation.
The police spokesman added that arrangements were being made to transfer him to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Asaba for further investigation.

While pursuing them, an operative was confronted by both suspects, who allegedly attempted to disarm him. In the ensuing struggle, the firearm discharged, leaving Nnaji with gunshot injuries, while the other suspect escaped. Nnaji was rushed to hospital, where he was later confirmed dead. His remains have been deposited in a mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
CP Giwa has urged the deceased’s family, associates and other concerned persons to remain calm, assuring them that the circumstances surrounding the incident will be thoroughly investigated and that any officer found culpable will face appropriate disciplinary action.
