The President of the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), Emeka Obegolu, SAN, has called on the business community to adopt heightened safety measures during ongoing protests.

Obegolu, in a statement said this was imperative as businesses across the territory faced significant disruptions, with many forced to shut down operations, hindering productivity and affecting livelihoods.

He emphasised the need for vigilance, urging business leaders to navigate this turbulent period with wisdom and caution.

“While many business owners depend on daily operations for their income, the necessity to stay indoors during protests can lead to substantial losses.

“It is imperative that we prioritise the safety of our employees, customers, and assets while striving to maintain operational continuity,” he said.

The ACCI president called on relevant security agencies to enhance protective measures for businesses and investments in the FCT, fostering a peaceful environment conducive to commerce.

He urged business owners to consider adjusting their operating hours to avoid peak protest times and ensure that all safety protocols are updated and effectively communicated to employees.

Obegolu then outlined specific operational and communication strategies for businesses to adopt during this period.

“Evaluate the necessity of in-person operations and implement remote work arrangements where feasible. Additionally, securing premises and ensuring all security systems are operational is crucial.

“Also, maintain open lines of communication with employees by providing regular updates and addressing their concerns promptly,”he said.

Obegolu expressed ACCI’s commitment in keeping its members informed about the evolving situation through reliable news channels and platforms.

He encouraged cooperation with local law enforcement and adherence to public safety directives also affirming that a united business community was more resilient.

He said: “ACCI is dedicated to supporting you through these challenging times. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates and assistance as necessary.

“Your cooperation and adherence to this advisory are vital for the safety and well-being of our entire business community.” (NAN)
