The Senate has dispelled reports of impeachment of the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio and other principal officers of the Senate, ordering the Senate Committee on Special Duties to conduct a thorough investigation of the report and submit its findings to the Senate immediately.

Senator Akpabio was conducting a plenary session yesterday when the report of the impeachment saga was brought to his attention, prompting him to lament over the activities of online reports while describing it as fake and unfounded.

Following the dismissal of the online report which suggested that the heavy presence of the secret police personnel at the national assembly yesterday morning was to provide security for the lawmakers and staff of the complex in the course of the impeachment of the Senate President and other principal officers, Senator Akpabio referred the investigation to Senator Kaka Shehu (APC, Borno Central), who chairs the Senate Committee on Special Duties.

“It’s been brought to my notice that there’s an online report saying that there’s an impeachment plot here. Distinguished colleagues,as we are seated here conducting our legislative business, is there anything like that going on here? The online reports are fake and it’s good that we inform Nigerians that we are here in peace.

“I understand YouTube pay online platforms, following the traffic generated. So,they may have had 1 million viewers for this fake report. Anyway, do I call on you Senator Yar Adua (Senate Committee.

Chairman of the Army) to investigate this or the Police? Well,let me call on the Special Duties to investigate this and report back. Senator Kaka Shehu, please do the needful and report back to the Senate immediately,” Akpabio said.

Responding, Senator Kaka Shehu said ” My Lord, I will get back after a thorough investigation “.

However, according to the impeachment report cited by our Correspondent in both Order Paper and Akelicious.com; an online platform, it was reported that “the precinct of the National Assembly appears like a warzone this morning as men of the Department of State Security(DSS) have taken over amidst speculations of an impeachment move against Sen. Akpabio.

“Operatives of the DSS have taken control of the National Assembly amid allegations of a potential impeachment threat against Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.

“Speculations have swirled that some aggrieved Northern Senators, allegedly dissatisfied with President Bola Tinubu, are reportedly reviving an earlier attempt to remove Akpabio from office.

“Globally, Parliaments have dedicated internal security personnel responsible for maintaining order and safety within and around the premises of Parliament.

“Other security agencies attached to these Parliaments are present to ensure the safety of lives and property in the event of any security breach or threats that might disrupt the proceedings of lawmakers and staff, particularly when internal security is overwhelmed.

“OrderPaper observed this morning that from the main entrance to the second gate and all entrances within the premises, DSS men and women dressed in dark-colored suits, wearing intimidating dark shades have been stationed.”
