The organizers of the Badagry International Film, Cultural and Sports Festival (BIFIF) on Wednesday said the maiden edition of the festival has  been slated to hold from Oct. 25 to Oct. 28.

Mr Viyon Awhanse, Chief Executive Officer of BIFIF, while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos said that the festival had so far generated over 3,000 film entries.

Awhanse noted that 30 of the  films would be carefully selected for screening in the course of the festival.

He said the aim of organising the festival was to reposition Badagry and make it attractive for local and International tourists.

According to him, BIFIF has considered films projecting spirituality, celebrating sports, culture and promoting tourism.

“This is a long-term project which we started in 2015, I am from Badagry, a town immensely endowed but nothing is happening in terms of tourism.

“This is my way of ensuring Badagry gains more feasibility to attract tourists: using the audio visuals because we discovered it is the best way to educate people about the potential in the town; people do not read again.

“We will be screening 30 films, 10 for each day of the festival.

“To also make the town and its people come alive and have some sense of inclusiveness, there would be sporting activities around the beautiful coastal area of Badagry.

“We will have tourists engage in 10km race along the shores of the coastal line as well as boat regatta, volleyball and beach soccer,” he said.

Awhanse noted that over 5,000 tourists were expected from Brazil, Asia, East Africa and more nations across the globe.

He said in the course of the festival, the town’s culture would be projected in the area of its unique traditional worship, languages and historical monuments.

Also, Mawuyon Ogun, Director of Media, BIFIF, said the theme for the festival, “Once Upon A Time”,

was carefully chosen to educate tourists to begin to see Badagry as a safe and secure town with hospitable and friendly people.

According to her, renowned filmmaker, Segun Arinze, is the festival director,” she said.

The singer revealed that he had to undergo surgery in the United States after a swelling in his throat made it impossible for him to perform.

In a recent interview Afrobeats star Tekno revealed that between 2017 and 2019, he struggled with a throat issue that made him unable to sing or perform and eventually forced him to travel to the United States for surgery.

According to the singer, songwriter, and music producer, the moment was a defining and challenging one as it happened when he was at the peak of his career.

“I was refunding so much money.

I think I refunded over a million dollars in shows,” Tekno said, narrating how he was forced to cancel bookings and also spend his own money fulfilling booking obligations after he had to pay a high cost for the surgery.

Speaking on the process of getting the surgery done, the musician revealed that he had to travel the world to find the right doctor and ended up in New York because he couldn’t get the required standard in Nigeria.

Tekno’s ordeal with throat illness is one of the health challenges that has adversely impacted some famous stars at certain points in their careers.

In 2011, British singer Adele was forced to cancel her North American tour to undergo laser microsurgery for a haemorrhaged vocal cord. Grammy-winning star John Mayer also had to undergo surgery in 2011 to remove a granuloma from his vocal cords, which forced him into a lengthy hiatus that resulted in a complete alteration of his singing style.

For Tekno, being able to rise beyond the challenges offered him a different perspective in life as he learnt to be grateful and appreciative of being able to still make music.

In his interview, the hitmaker, who is one of the stars that dominated the 2010s with a collection of mega hit songs, spoke about his latest album ‘Where Did Love Go.’ The 8-track EP packs his signature genre-blending and melodies that shape his songs.

Maduka Okoye was spotted in a Paris fashion show alongside American rapper Cardi B as romance rumours gain steam.

While the attention of the global footballing community was focused on the ongoing FIFA World Cup being co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada, one of the sport’s most eligible bachelors was making headlines of his own in faraway Paris.

On June 8, 2026, Nigerian Footballer Maduka Okoye was spotted with American hip hop star Cardi B at the Jean Paul Gaultier Fall/Winter 2026 Haute Couture Show in Paris.

Clips which surfaced online showed the Nigerian goalkeeper helping Cardi B to a seat next to him before handing her a hand fan to keep cool.

Another clip captured the pair engaging in a conversation at the balcony of a building, with Cardi B visibly smiling.

The video has since sparked speculations of a potential romance between the two. Fans couldn’t help pointing out how Cardi B appeared taken by the strikingly handsome Okoye, who has been making headlines for his good looks.

The comment section of the urban digital media platform, African Folder, which shared the clip to their Instagram page, was filled with comments praising Okoye for his looks and hailing Cardi B for having eyes for handsome men. Others also commented on how both stars would make a very picture-perfect couple.

At the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, some content creators shared clips ranking some of the best-looking stars at the tournament. Attention would later turn to Maduka Okoye, who didn’t make the tournament with Nigeria but made the list for his striking good looks.

The 26-year-old who plays for Italian club Udinese was born in August 1999 to a Nigerian father of Igbo descent and a German-French mother. While his good looks have always been a talking point among football fans, the ongoing FIFA World Cup brought him wider attention with viral videos of women gushing over him.

At the recent BET Awards, Nigerian international music star Tems was asked whether she would consider going on a date with Okoye, to which she replied that “she wished she knew who he was” as she doesn’t follow football.

The potential of a romance between the Nigerian football star and American rapper Cardi B is likely to bring him even more fame outside football. Although his relationship status is private, there are rumours that he has broken up with his British girlfriend. The 33-year-old Cardi B, who is a mother of four, is single after parting ways with her ex-boyfriend and father of her fourth child, NFL star Stefflon Diggs,
