Abia State Government said it has received the report of two confirmed cases of COVID-19 from the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
The state in a statemen issued by the commissioner for information,Chief John Okiyi Kalu noted that the patients who are advanced in age were stable in one of the isolation centres.
Meanwhile, the governor has directed the deployment of ventilators to the isolation center in readiness for their use if eventually required to nurse the patients back to good health.
Residents of the state have been advised not to panic but to comply with directives of the NCDC to forestall spread of the virus.
The directives include staying at home except on compelling needs of purchasing food and drugs;washing hands regularly with soap and applying hand sanitizer.
Others are maintaining social distancing and shutting down markets.The residents are also advised against embarking on public transport for now.
