The Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA,  has urged Abuja residents to avoid overcrowded areas ahead of gradual easing of lockdown measures in FCT, effective from Monday, May 4.

Minister of State, FCT, Dr Ramatu Aliyu, gave the warning at the Flag off of the distribution of palliatives to vulnerable groups at the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), on Thursday, in Abuja.

Aliyu noted that the aftermath of easing of lockdown measures would be dependent on what people did in their own rights.

The minister noted that easing of lockdown was the most critical period, adding that experience had shown that even the most developed nations like Germany and Britain recorded high number of COVID-19 cases after the lockdown.

“Even Ghana is experiencing a high rate of new cases almost 274 after relaxing the lockdown.

“That is the implication that comes with it. It is not time for social visit and littering about on the street for we do know that by doing that we are endangering the liveS of our loved ones.

“If you do not have any reason to be on the street, please for your own safety, stay at home.

“Let’s ensure that we do not encourage overcrowded areas, instead, obey the social distancing and do not saturate the markets,”Aliyu said.

The minister disclosed that after the COVID-19 pandemic, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) would revisit issues of urban renewal and slum upgrade.

She decried lack of adequate planning in the satellite towns, adding that the administration would do everything possible to address the situation at the end of COVID-19 pandemic.

“What we are seeing today in our suburbs that we are struggling to control is lack of adequate planning of our satellite towns, but at the end of the pandemic, life will never be the same and we shall get better,”she said.

The Minister of the Federal Capital (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike, has sought for huge investments from Indian investors, as part of strategies to fast tract the development of the capital territory, Abuja.

Wike made the call when the Indian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr Shri Balasubramanian, visited him in Abuja on Tuesday.

He acknowledged the presence of many Indian companies in the country, particularly petrochemicals and fertiliser companies among others.

“We would also like to have this kind of relationship in Abuja.

“You have seen improvement in security; you have seen improvement in infrastructure in Abuja. That is part of the “Renewed Hope” agenda of President Bola Tinubu.

“We will discuss other areas that will be of mutual interest between India and Nigeria, and Abuja in particular,” he said.

The minister said that it was within the purview of the FCT Administration to ensure that all Embassies in Nigeria, have an unhostile environment to enable them perform their assignments.

Earlier, Balasubramanian said that the excellent relationship between India and Nigeria was quite old.

The Ambassador explained that India began its diplomatic relationship with Nigeria two years before the country became independent in 1958, when India established a diplomatic office in Lagos.

He said that there were over 155 Indian companies in Nigeria, with more than 27 billion dollars of investments in various manufacturing areas.

He said that companies ranged from plastics to steel, oil, and pharmaceuticals among others in every sector.

According to him, Indian companies are the second largest employer of labour after the Nigerian government.

“So that is the level of engagement that we have, including wonderful political relationships.
