The Federal Government has invited the African Development Bank (AfDB) to support the design and financing of the Digital Value Chain Infrastructure for Boosting Employment (D-VIBE), also known as Project BRIDGE.

The AfDB said this in a statement on its website.

According to the bank, the project aims to expand Nigeria’s fibre backbone from 35,000km to at least 125,000km, making it Africa’s third-longest terrestrial fibre network after Egypt and South Africa.

It said the expansion was expected to address existing infrastructure gaps, as current fibre coverage reportedly met only about one-third of the country’s national needs.

“By extending connectivity to underserved and unserved communities, the initiative is designed to strengthen digital inclusion.

”It will enhance broadband access and also stimulate employment opportunities across the country,” the bank said.

It said as part of project implementation, a consultancy would provide communications, planning and stakeholder management services for D-VIBE-related events.

“The firm will support the Project Implementation Unit (PIU), the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy (FMCIDE) and the AfDB in coordinating and delivering project events.

“Its responsibilities will include managing event communications, stakeholder participation, protocol and engagement before, during and after each event.

“The activities are expected to align with the project’s Stakeholder Engagement Plan (SEP), published as an Environmental and Social Requirement during preparation.

”It will also directly support AfDB-related financing for the initiative,” it stated.

eTranzact Promises Easy Onboarding, e-invoicing to Tax Payers

eTranzact, a Nigerian fintech company, on Tuesday reiterated its commitment to facilitating same-day onboarding and ensuring easy, seamless e-invoicing uploads.

Executive Director of etranzact, Abubakar Achimugu, gave the promise at a Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) E-invoicing Compliance Workshop and Stakeholders’ Engagement, organised by the etranzact, in Abuja.

Achimugu harped on the need for tax payers to comply easily using various solutions provided by the organisation.

The e-invoice is a digital representation of a transaction between a supplier and a buyer, which contains essential transaction details.

Details such as supplier and buyer information, item descriptions, quantities, prices, tax and total amounts.

The executive director said that to support the growth of the digital economy, the NRS intended to implement “e-invoices” in stages to enhance the efficiency of Nigeria’s tax administration.

“We at e-tranzact have had this collaboration with the NRS for so many years.

“We are the major platform that has been doing all the revenue collection in the country, especially on the VAT funds, which has been very exceptional, seamless, secured and safe.

“In respect to E-invoicing, we are moving away from the manual process to digitalisation. This is very seamless, it’s user friendly, regardless of your literacy level.

“This (E-invoicing) will also protect the average Nigerian from multiple taxation, such that as you are inputting and processing you are getting a notification to see what exactly you have paid for and documenting that process as well,” he said.

Achimugu said that the eTranzact offered round the clock supply and same day onboarding to facilitate effortless uploads of e-invoice to the NRS portal.

On the issues of infrastructural challenges in implementing E-invoicing, Mohammed Bawa, Project Manager, E-invoicing of the NRS said the project has been divided into phases to ease implementation.

“From the beginning of the project, we knew that there would be some challenges.

“The implementation in three different phases. The large tax payers, the medium and the emerging.

“We have a three year plan. Within the last one year, we have been speaking directly to only large tax payers, organising so many engagements for them to ease the adoption process because we know the transition is not that easy.

“Our focus for now is how to support tax payers to see how easily they can comply and that is why we have accredited so many service providers that will be there for the tax payers when they have challenges.

“We have been encouraging tax payers to always leverage on the services of these service providers like eTranzact.

“This is because they have undergone accreditation, process, and have demonstrated their solutions to us and we have endorsed it.

“They (the service providers) are in the best position to support the implementation and that is the only way the adoption of E-invoicing can be made seamless and easy to tax payers,” he said.

Bawa also noted that the NRS was doing its part to also directly engage with tax payers.

“We are providing so many channels for tax payers to reach out.

“We are coming up with a simulation portal that will allow the tax payers to simulate the generation of the invoice even before the implementation process begins.

“We also have an engagement portal on our website, so anyone can schedule an engagement with us when they have concerns,” he added.

Bawa also said that the NRS would continue to sensitise Nigerians on the projects and its benefits to the nation.

Onyeka Seeks Media Backing as Tincan Customs Targets Paperless Trade in Q2

The Customs Area Controller of Tincan Island Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Comptroller Frank Onyeka, has called for stronger media collaboration as the command prepares to transition to paperless operations in the second quarter of 2026.

Onyeka made the appeal during a media engagement held at the command’s headquarters in Lagos, where he outlined the operational and economic benefits of the new One-Stop-Shop (OSS) platform.

He commended the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi, for unveiling the OSS initiative on Feb.

13, describing it as a strategic reform designed to modernise port operations and strengthen trade facilitation.

According to Onyeka, the OSS represents a shift from fragmented documentation procedures to a coordinated digital governance structure that reduces bureaucracy and improves cargo clearance timelines.

He explained that the digital platform centralised all risk management interventions at the Area Command level through the Query and Amendment (Q&A) process, ensuring transparency and accountability.

The controller noted that the system harmonised operations of the Customs Processing Unit, Valuation Unit and Customs Intelligence Unit within a unified physical and digital framework supported by checkbox and flagging mechanisms.

Onyeka said port delays were often caused not by inspection procedures but by disjointed documentation processes and system inefficiencies, which the OSS was specifically designed to address.

He emphasised that proper declaration of goods would significantly minimise delays, adding that paperless processing would prevent files from being left unattended.

The Customs boss advised importers and agents to ensure accurate classification and proper palletisation of consignments, warning that scanners would immediately flag improperly declared goods for physical examination.

He reassured stakeholders that the command’s scanning machines were fully operational and that trained officers were on standby to manage potential network disruptions without affecting clearance timelines.

Onyeka disclosed that the Tincan Command generated N145 billion in revenue in January 2026, surpassing the N116 billion collected in January 2025.

He said the N29.9 billion increase reflects improved compliance, enhanced monitoring and the impact of ongoing digital reforms within the Service.

The controller projected that cargo throughput at the port would likely double upon full implementation of the OSS, positioning the command as a trade enabler rather than merely a revenue-collecting agency.

He added that the command would prioritise collectible revenue optimisation over aggressive revenue drive, in order to strike a balance between compliance enforcement and business competitiveness.

Onyeka reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Customs Service to continuous stakeholder engagement.

He expressed confidence that with media support and sustained digital integration, the paperless initiative would significantly boost efficiency, transparency and Nigeria’s ease of doing business ranking.

Policy Implementation, Regional Collaboration, Others to Shape Energy Development

Operators in the petroleum sector have called for more regional collaboration across Africa, right policies and implementation, in a bid to strengthen the energy sector.

Speaking at the on-going 10th Anniversary edition of the Sub-Saharan African International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference ( 2026), in Lagos, theme, “Africa’s Local Content Collaboration Strategy.

Speaking in a panel session, Chairman, Oilserv Group, Emeka Okwuosa, said, “On the government side, to talk about regional collaboration, we need free movement.

I understand that the Chairman will be visiting the AU meeting. I think one of the points that should be raised with the leaders of AU is to make the business free, so that we can allow a free movement and collaboration.

“Also, we need policies. We have policies that are already in place in Nigeria. Let’s try to standardize it across the African nations so that we can ease collaboration in those areas.

“One of the initiatives coming out, stemming from the PIA, the Domestic Decade of Gas, which is very clear and very executable, and Oilserv is playing a significant role in delivering the projects for the Decade of Gas. That’s on the government side.”

Okwuosa added that “Before now, Oilserv was saddled with the responsibility to execute complex projects and pipeline infrastructure. Just to, for the benefit of those who are not aware of these complex projects that we have as a company executed. We have executed one of the largest gas treatment plants within the OB3 project.

“The OB3 project is a 124-kilometer gas pipeline, 48 inches, the largest in Nigeria. Plus, the gas treatment plant has the capacity to process two liters of gas per day. And that facility is currently under the scope of gas as we speak today.

“We have also been involved in the AKK, which is ongoing, another significant complex project that is 40 inches by 304 kilometers per second, one that we are responsible for. And the design has been completed; the construction of the pipeline has been completed as of December.

“We have been involved in constructing and building gas pipelines to independent power plants, six of them individually, including the geometric power plant that was commissioned last year by the Vice President and is currently promoting industrialization in the country. Within Lagos, we have built and constructed and installed cumulatively 200 kilometers of gas pipelines.”

On other development, Okwuosa added that the place for capacity development as well as community relations cannot be overemphasized.

Noting that “We have leveraged on capacity development. We have also leveraged on training and partnership. For the OB3 that I mentioned, when we installed or constructed that, one of the main processes of the pipeline construction is welding. We use the manual welding system to install that.

“And we are able to achieve that with the partnership of the OB3 and provide training to our people. We have also leveraged on the communities, collaborating with the communities to ensure that we empower and get them involved as well as educating them in our processes and our projects.

“That, in turn, has given some useful environment to execute and not affect the project execution. In technology and innovation, we have also deployed technologies like the Horizontal Directional Drilling, HDD. And first of all, it is because they have been trainers in this industry, making sure that the human resources get the right training modules, the right skills that are relevant to this industry.”

On the operators, he called for more projects to be allotted to indigenous operators, adding that “What we need from you is to give us more jobs. Get your FID on time and reduce the contract cycle from one year or three years to as soon as possible within six months.”

He lauded Total Energy, NLNG, Renaissance for their continued support to grow indigenous EPC companies.
