NDPHC Commends NPA over Cargo Recovery
The Niger Delta Power Holding Company Ltd. (NDPHC) has commended the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) for facilitating the recovery of abandoned company cargoes.
The company said the NPA’s intervention covered several seaports across the country and helped avert substantial financial losses.
NDPHC Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Jennifer Adighije, gave the commendation in a statement on Sunday after a courtesy visit to NPA management.
The visit, held at the NPA headquarters in Marina, Lagos, was aimed at strengthening the strategic partnership between both organisations.
Adighije expressed appreciation to the NPA Managing Director, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, and his management team for their intervention.
She said the support facilitated the recovery of NDPHC’s abandoned cargoes at different seaports across the country.
According to her, the intervention helped prevent significant financial losses and saved NDPHC several billions of naira.
Adighije stressed that efficient logistics and timely clearance of critical equipment were essential to implementing power infrastructure projects successfully.
She also called for sustained collaboration among agencies and organisations operating across Nigeria’s energy and maritime sectors.
The NDPHC chief said the company valued the NPA’s support and looked forward to strengthening their relationship further.
She said stronger cooperation would benefit Nigeria’s power sector and contribute to broader economic development.
The NDPHC delegation included its Executive Director, Corporate Services, Chukwuma Umeoji, and Executive Director, Finance and Accounts, Omololu Agoro.
Others were the company’s Head of Expediting and Logistics, Rufai Ahmed, and other management officials.
Responding, Dantsoho expressed delight at the visit and reaffirmed NPA’s commitment to partnerships promoting national development.

He added that the Authority remained open to meaningful engagements with NDPHC on issues of mutual interest.

The engagement highlighted the importance of inter-agency collaboration in removing logistical bottlenecks that could delay major infrastructure projects.
For the power sector, timely movement and delivery of equipment remain critical to accelerating project execution and improving electricity supply nationwide. (NAN)

BPP Seeks Stronger CSO Participation in Public Procurement Monitoring
The Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) has called for stronger participation of civil society organisations (CSOs) in monitoring Nigeria’s public procurement system to ensure value for public expenditure.
The Director-General of the BPP, Dr Adebowale Adedokun, made the call in a statement by Ngozi Anyaelezu, Assistant Chief Information Officer, in Abuja on Friday.
According to the statement, Adedokun made the call in Abuja at the inaugural forum of the Advocate for the Promotion of Transparent Procurement Initiative (APTPI).
He urged CSOs to serve as independent observers by monitoring procurement processes, documenting their findings and submitting credible observations to appropriate authorities.
According to him, procurement should not be treated merely as an administrative procedure but as a tool for delivering Nigeria’s broader economic and social development objectives.
“An effective procurement system promotes value for money, competition and sustainable development.
“Stronger procurement outcomes will also improve citizens’ confidence in government,” he said
The BPP boss identified effective procurement planning as critical to reducing waste and improving public expenditure outcomes.
He highlighted proper record-keeping, market surveys, cost benchmarking and contract monitoring as key components of effective procurement planning, stressing that planning must precede procurement activities.
Adedokun said government institutions would increasingly be required to demonstrate the effectiveness of previous budget implementation before new projects were admitted into the budget process.
He said the approach would strengthen the link between budget allocation, procurement decisions and the actual results delivered to citizens.
The director-general also said the bureau’s price intelligence mechanisms remained important tools for controlling procurement costs.
He said that procurement reforms had generated substantial savings, with about N1.1 trillion saved in the first 11 months of 2025 through improved processes, benchmarking and stronger controls.
Adedokun listed some of the reforms as the digitalisation of procurement processes, wider publication of procurement opportunities and contract awards, professionalisation of procurement personnel and development of standard bidding documents.
He said that Nigeria’s procurement system must move towards greater openness and competition, stressing that selective tendering should no longer be treated as the norm.
He also said that strengthening procurement integrity was a collective responsibility involving procuring entities, contractors, consultants and procurement professionals.
The Secretary of the APTPI Board, Ayorinde Dola-Johnson, said the organisation would focus on evidence-driven monitoring, access to procurement information and constructive engagement with public institutions.
Dola-Johnson said APTPI’s approach would remain non-partisan and professionally independent.
He said its success would be measured by the procurement challenges it helped prevent; the reforms it advanced and the improvements it contributed to in the value Nigerians derived from public spending. (NAN)

NICA Urges Adeleke to Drive Osun Economy through Credit Access
The National Institute of Credit Administration (NICA) has congratulated Osun Governor elect, Sen. Ademola Adeleke, urging him to make credit access and financial inclusion key pillars of his administration’s economic policy.
NICA Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Prof.
Chris Onalo, made the call in a statement issued in Lagos on Friday, congratulating Adeleke on his emergence as governor-elect.Onalo said sustainable economic growth could not be achieved without the disciplined and inclusive flow of credit to productive sectors.
He said Osun had significant human capital, entrepreneurial energy and agricultural potential, but required deliberate policies to convert these resources into productivity.
“Growth is not financed by budget alone. It is financed when the trader in Oja-Oba can access working capital, when the agro-processor in Iwo can finance equipment, and when the tech graduate in Ife can fund a scalable idea.
“Credit is what moves an economy from subsistence to scale,” he said.
He urged the incoming administration to develop policies that would de-risk lending, strengthen credit bureaus and promote financial literacy.
According to him, such measures will create jobs, expand the state’s tax base and reduce poverty.
He also called for a state wide framework promoting responsible borrowing, ethical lending and credit education.
Onalo said NICA was ready to partner with the Osun Government through technical advisory, executive capacity building and public credit education programmes.
He added that NICA became a chartered professional body under Act No. 26 of 2022 and was recognised as the statutory body for regulating the credit management profession in Nigeria.
He explained that the Federal Government in February, signed an MoU with NICA and five other professional bodies.
He said the programme was to implement a programme providing free credit and financial inclusion training to 10 million Nigerians, with priority given to women and youths.
Onalo urged Adeleke to use his mandate to expand citizens’ access to capital and economic opportunities.
He said the success of the incoming administration should ultimately be measured by tangible improvements in productivity and prosperity across the state. (NAN)
