Military Neutralises 572 Terrorists, Apprehends 790 Suspects in July – DHQ

Troops have neutralised 572 terrorists, apprehended 790 suspected terrorists and other criminal elements, rescued 479 kidnapped hostages across the country in the month of July.The Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, made this known in a statement on Friday in Abuja.
Buba said the troops recovered 440 weapons, 10,589 ammunition comprising 232 AK47 rifles, 93 locally fabricated guns and 82 dane guns. He said troops also recovered 32 pump action guns, 5,041 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 2,768 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, 659 cartridges, 63 assorted arms and 2,259 assorted ammunition.In the North East, he said troops of Operation Hadin Kai, neutralised 254 terrorist, apprehended 167 suspects and rescued 80 kidnapped hostages as well as surrendering of 3,976 surrendered BH/ISWAP terrorists combatants and their families.He added that a total of 106 AK47 rifles, 36 fabricated rifles, 29 dane guns, 17 assorted arms, 1,644 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 968 rounds of 7.62mm NATO and 1,379 assorted ammunition were recovered.In the North Central, Buba said the troops of Operation Safe Haven neutralised 50 terrorist/ violent extremist, apprehended 135 suspects and rescued 80 kidnapped hostages within the month.He added that the troops also recovered 32 AK47 rifles, 28 fabricated guns, 27 assorted arms, 773 rounds of 7.62mm special, 200 rounds of 7.62mm NATO and 178 assorted ammunition.Under Operation Whirl Stroke, he said the troops neutralised 24 terrorist, apprehended 56 suspects and rescued 59 kidnapped hostages, as well as recovery of cache of assorted arms and ammunition.In the North West, Buba said the troops of Operation Hadarin Daji neutralised 152 terrorist, apprehended 102 suspects and rescued 144 kidnapped hostages in July.He added that the troops also recovered 48 AK47 rifles, 24 fabricated guns, five assorted arms, 1,462 rounds of 7.62mm special, 1,079 rounds of 7.62mm NATO and 94 assorted ammunition.Under Operation Whirl Punch, Buba said the troops neutralised 66 terrorist, arrested 76 suspects and rescued 97 kidnap hostages as well as recovery of 24 AK47 rifles, 737 rounds of 7.62mm special, 281 rounds of 7.62mm NATO and 45 assorted ammunition.In the South-South, Buba said the troops of Operation Delta Safe, apprehended 137 suspected crude oil thieves, recovered 3.6 million litres of crude oil, 625,518 litres of AGO, 450 litres of DPK and 1,230 litres of PMS.According to him, troops also destroyed 91 wooden boats, 53 assorted ammunition and 173 illegal refining sites.In the South East, Buba said the troops of Operation UDO KA, neutralised 26 terrorist, apprehended 117 suspects and rescued 19 kidnap hostages.According to him, troops recovered 18 AK47 rifles, 29 pump action guns, 372 rounds of 7.62mm special, 178 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, 504 live cartridges, 26 assorted arms, 475 assorted ammunition and 49 other equipment.On the ongoing nationwide protest, Buba said armed forces was committed to ensuring stability wherever it might be needed across the country.“We have tighten security in several areas , bearing in mind the protest was hijacked and turned violent in some parts of the country.“The military remains committed and strong to its mission of defending the country and protecting citizens.“Citizens are urged not to compromise on security, otherwise the security of everyone is compromised,” he said. Zulum Offers N5m Each to Families of 8 Slained CJTF Members

Gov. Babagana Zulum of Borno has donated N5 million each to the families of eight members of Civilian Joint Task Force ( CJTF) who recently died in an explosion on the Dikwa to Marte road.
Zulum who made this known on Friday during a condolence visit to the families of deceased in Maiduguri, also granted scholarship to their children.
The Civilian CJTF is a volunteer security group that supports military operations against insurgents in Borno State and other parts of the North-East.
” I want to announce a financial assistance of N5 million to each of the bereaved families to cater for their immediate needs.
” Furthermore, the Borno Government will provide full educational scholarship to all children of the deceased CJTF members.
” For those who left no children, we shall extend assistance to their close family members,” he said.
The governor said the gesture was part of his administration’s commitment to assisting the families of security personnel and members of the CJTF who paid the supreme price of defending his people
Zulum described the deceased as martyrs who made the ultimate sacrifice in defence of their communities and assured that their bravery would always be remembered.
He prayed for the repose of their souls of the deceased and urged the bereaved families to take solace in the heroic legacy left behind by their loved ones.
The CJTF operatives died on Tuesday after they ran into an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in the area.(NAN)

Police Nab 5 Suspected Cultists, Recover Firearms in A’Ibom

The Police Command in Akwa Ibom says it has arrested five suspected cultists and recovered firearms at Ibesikpo Asutan area of the state.
DSP Timfon John, the Police Public Relations Officer, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday in Uyo.
John said the arrests took place at the cultists’ hideout in Ikot Etuk village, Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area on Wednesday.
She said that the operatives of the command, based on credible information, arrested the cultists.
John said that during the operation, operatives recovered one locally made pistol, one fabricated single-barrel gun and assorted charms.
According to her, the suspects have voluntarily provided useful information to the police regarding their criminal activities.
“This includes their involvement in a recent attack on Fulani herdsmen, which resulted in the killing of two cows.
“The stolen cows were reportedly shared among various cult groups within Ibesikpo Asutan,” she said.
John said that efforts were currently underway to apprehend other fleeing gang members and recover their operational weapons.
The spokesman further said the developments would be communicated to the public as they unfold. (NAN)

Police Arrest 4 Suspects, Recover Stolen Property in A’Ibom

The Police Command in Akwa Ibom said it had arrested four suspected criminals in Udi Street in Uyo and recovered numerous stolen items.
DSP Timfon John, the Command’s Public Relations Officer said this in a statement in Uyo on Monday.
John said that the suspects were arrested base on credible intelligence and in compliance with the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Azare’s directive.
She said that an operation which was inaugurated last Friday at exactly 1:15 a.
m., led to the arrest of the four suspects.”In a significant intelligence-led operation, operatives of the command raided a location in Udi Street, leading to the arrest of two individuals and the recovery of numerous stolen items.
The raid also resulted in the arrest of another two suspected receivers of stolen property,” she explained.
The command’s image maker said that exhibit including 14 sewing machine heads and a generator were recovered from the suspects.
According to her, two complainants have come forward and identified their stolen machines among the recovered items.
She added that investigation into the matter was ongoing. (NAN)
