The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon Femi Gabjabiamila has said that the 9th National Assembly would give adequate support to the Public Complaint Commission(PCC) to achieve its mandate.

The Speaker, who spoke during a courtesy call on him by a delegation of the commission led by its Chief Commissioner Chile Igbawua, said the National Assembly would do everything possible to make the agency work efficiently and effectively to meet the expectations of Nigerians.

He particularly noted that the National Assembly may have cause to look at the Act establishing the Company commission with a view to either expanding its mandate or making it more efficient.

“Nobody seems to know the commission but I am glad that you have been able to publicise and communicate to the public.

You are our own baby, and whatever we need to do to make you work, we should do it, even if it means amending your laws.

“Your commission is very important, even more than other commissions. I visited your office in Lagos, and if what I saw represents what is obtains in other places, then there is a lot of work to do.

“We should be able to boost your capacity to deliver on your mandate.

You mentioned foreign collaboration but beyond that I think there should be a local collaboration. We need to look for both money, of course government alone cannot do it.

You need to generate money on your own, but if you are not able to, then we need to amend your laws to make it generate revenue, because you need to think outside the box.

“You also need to contact private organisations and state governments to see if they can assist you in one way or the other.

We want a situation where you won’t depend on government alone,” Gbajabiamila said.

The Chief Commissioner, Chile Igbawua said the Commission has a mirage of challenges, including inadequate funding, image problem among others, and called on the Speaker to intervene on their behalf.

He said the commission also faces the problem of accommodation in its various offices across the country, and has received quit notices in some places.

By Laide Akinboade, Abuja
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike, haom Wednesday,  expressed satisfaction with the quality and speed of the ongoing road constructions in Kuje, Kuje Area Council.
The roads that were inspected by the Minister included, the six-lane dual carriageway from Airport Expressway to Kuje Junction and the five-kilometre dual carriageway from Garage Junction to LEA Secretariat, in Kuje.

The minister explained that the five-kilometre dual carriage way from Garage Junction to LEA Secretariat was nominated by the council’s chairman and stakeholders in the area.

He said that the contractor has done earth work covering 2.
5 kilometres, adding that what would follow was the drainage.
According to the Minister, “The Area Council Chairman and the stakeholders in Kuje were the ones that nominated this road. And the road is 5 kilometers and just like what the contractor said, they started from where they have difficulty so that by the time they get to where there is consent they would have sorted out the issues.
“From what they have said today, they have done the earthwork to 2 kilometers and they said before the end of the year they would have completed this particular road.
“And the one from the airport to Kuje city here, which is being handled by the Arab contractors, you can see that their work is going on very well.
“And with the quality of work we are quite satisfied too. The contractor said before the end of the year they would have completed the earthwork. It gladdens our heart that we are meeting our targets.”
Earlier, Mr Shehu Ahmad, Executive Secretary, Federal Capital Development Authority, said that the road, linking the Airport Expressway to Kuje township would cover 11 kilometres.
Ahmad explained that between the airport expressway to Kuje junction, the road would cross over two rivers and also cross over the Outer Southern Expressway that would link the city centre with Gwagwalada Expressway.
He added that the Airport Expressway to Kuje Junction would cover nine kilometres, while the remaining two kilometres would extend backward towards Kyami District.
He explained that one of the major constraints affecting the delivery of the road was the presence of five towers belonging to the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) along the road corridor.
The FCDA boss added that TCN have been contacted and have agreed to relocate the towers, stressing that until the obstructions were removed, work could not take place in the affected areas.
