Opposition Behind Benue APC Crisis – Support Groups

By Mike Odiakose, Abuja
The Forum of APC Support Groups Leaders has alleged that opposition elements are behind the ongoing political crisis within the Benue State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, (APC).
Speaking at a press conference held at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja on Thursday, the Director General of the Forum, Dr.
A. K. Peters, accused the opposition of orchestrating moves to destabilize the party’s leadershipHe reaffirmed the group’s support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.
Peters condemned the legal actions taken by the former Benue APC chairman, Austin Agada, against the dissolution of the state party executive, describing it as a direct challenge to the authority of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC).
He also criticized the role of the Chief Judge of Benue State, Justice Maurice Ikpambese, alleging that his recent actions, including the controversial relocation of the Benue State Local Government Elections Petition Tribunal to Abuja, were aimed at undermining APC leadership at both the state and national levels.
He said, “We recall that the National Working Committee of our great party, acting on the powers of the National Executive Committee (NEC), dissolved the Benue State Executive and constituted a unity caretaker committee in February 2024, bringing an end to the warring factions within the party in Benue State.
“It is a known fact that after the Caretaker Committee was inaugurated, the former state chairman, Austin Agada, went to court to challenge the powers of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is the chairman of NEC, and the national chairman of our party, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, over the dissolution of the Benue State chapter and the inauguration of the unity caretaker committee.
“The dissolved exco went ahead and forwarded a list of candidates to the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC), challenging the leadership of the party.
“As the Forum of Support Groups Leaders, we are disappointed that the former chairman went to court to challenge the party, against the party’s constitution, which states that members must exhaust all internal mechanisms to resolve an issue before going to court. Yet, the national leadership is just watching.
“We understand that the ongoing crisis in Benue is a result of the decision of the NWC, acting on the powers of NEC, which changed the leadership of the party in Benue State. The party must intervene to defend its decision by maintaining party supremacy, as enshrined in our constitution.
“Today, the Chief Judge of Benue State, Justice Maurice Ikpambese, has clearly taken sides with the dissolved executive to undermine President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje’s leadership.
“To us, it is unacceptable because there is a clear line between justice and injustice. The Chief Justice of Nigeria should call the Benue Chief Judge to order before it is too late.
“It is now clear that there is an attempt to undermine the party’s national leadership and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by the Benue State Chief Judge, who has abandoned justice for trivial sentiments.
“We strongly call on the national leadership of the party, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje to immediately intervene in the pending danger and threat to democracy in Benue State.
“We strongly observe that the Benue State Chief Judge is being used by the opposition not only to frustrate our performing government in Benue State but also as a direct attack on our amiable President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
‘Therefore, our party leadership and the presidency must take a stand now before some anti-democratic forces and enemies of our party hijack the ongoing evil plot.”

“The state PDP Women Leader, Hajiya Rabi Madawaki, made the statement in the presence of the Governor’s wife, Hajiya Huriyya Dauda.
“The threat and intimidation by the PDP women leader came out with a completely different but savage way of forcing out support and subsequently, votes for the governor, Mr Dauda Lawal in the 2027 governorship election.
“Madawaki said in the presence of governor’s wife in Hausa language, at a gathering held in Gusau on Friday that translated as ‘anyone who does not vote for Dauda, we will maim, beat, kill him, (zamu ci ubanshi zamu yi mashi duka)’.
According to him, in a civilised scoiety, elections are always supposed to be free, fair and non violent.

Youth Leader Urges Stakeholders to Rally behind Dickson for 2027

From Mike Tayese, Yenagoa
A Youth Leader from Bayelsa West Senatorial District, Alhaji Letugbene has called on stakeholders in Ekeremor and Sagbama Local Government Areas of Bayelsa State to close ranks and work together to return the Senator representing Bayelsa West Senatorial District, Seriake Dickson to the National Assembly come 2027.
Letugbene, who made the call recently said, Senator Dickson has performed creditably since he was elected and should be supported by all to continue his good work in the Senate, as there is no doubt in his political experience and leadership abilities and competence. He particularly, appealed to the stakeholders and people of Ekeremor to rally round Senator Dickson because he remains the only and best option for the people of Bayelsa West who are clamouring for true representation.”I want to call on my people in Ekeremor to join us to work together to return Senator Seriake Dickson back to the Senate in 2027.He has done well since he was elected and I’m convinced he will even do better for us” he said.According to him, Senator Dickson deserves the support of Ekeremor because he has impacted every community, noting that as a two-term governor, he cited several key projects in the LGA and appointed sons and daughters into key positions of trust, while as a federal lawmaker, he continues to impact the people positively.Letugbene, who is the National Vice Chairman of the Third Phase of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), also asserted, that Senator Dickson has taken the gauntlet left by the late Ijaw leader, Pa Edwin Clark, to face fire for the Ijaw Nation when it mattered most, noting that he stood his ground against intimidation and oppression to speak truth to power when issues affecting his people are on the front burner in the Red Chamber. He said Senator Dickson has remained vocal, courageous and fearless in the National Assembly, condemning the marginalization and oppression of the Ijaw Nation as well as other ethnic nationalities in the Niger Delta, while demanding equity, fairness and justice for the people.Letugbene, however, bemoaned the actions of a few misguided stakeholders from Ekeremor who are whipping up sentiments against Senator Dickson through propaganda and claims that Sagbama is marginalizing Ekeremor over the Senate seat, urging them not to spread falsehood as the zoning formula in the area no longer existed and that anyone is free from either LGAs to contest the Senate and House of Representatives election in 2027.The ex-agitator, who passed a ‘vote of confidence’ on Senator Dickson, also enjoined beneficiaries of the Presidential Amnesty Programme from Ekeremor LGA to support the federal lawmaker because of his assertive and unwavering commitment to the upliftment and betterment of Bayelsa West, the Ijaw people and the Niger Delta in the Nigerian Federation.
