Police Arrest 43 Suspects over ‘one Chance’ Robbery, others in FCT

The Police Command in the Federal Capital Territory  (FCT) said it has arrested 43 suspects over “one chance” robbery, kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism and other criminal offences in the territory.

The Commissioner of Police (CP) in the FCT, Mr Haruna Garba said this during a media briefing on Tuesday in Abuja.

He said 11 of the suspects were arrested over “one chance” robbery, seven for alleged kidnapping and others for  various criminal offences.

Garba said three stolen vehicles, five firearms, 30 ammunition and other dangerous weapons were recovered from the suspects.

He said operatives from the Tradmore Division of the Command, on Oct.

24, arrested a suspect following a report by one Faith James.

The CP said James had reported that she boarded a green Peugeot vehicle with Reg. No. CK 202 GWA from ACO estate junction heading to Trademore and was robbed of her belongings, including N110,000 cash.

He said the victim was robbed by the commercial vehicle driver and her colleagues who pretended to be genuine passengers.

“On receipt of the report, Police Operatives from the division swung into action, trailed and arrested a suspect with the same vehicle in the process of committing the same act on another innocent passenger.

“The suspect has confessed to his involvement in the crime and is assisting the Police to apprehend his other gang members at large,” Garba said.

The CP also said operatives from Asokoro Division, on Oct. 30,  while on routine patrol along DSS Quarters, Asokoro observed a Vento Volkswagen car with Reg No. APP 307 GS moving in a suspicious manner.

He said the operatives intercepted the driver of the vehicle opposite Niger barracks and arrested the three males and two females in the car.

The CP said the suspects had during investigation, confessed to being a “one chance” syndicate, who specialise in identifying and picking up their victims, take them to an isolated area, rob them of their valuables, and drop them off at isolated locations.

According to him, while searching the vehicle, police operatives discovered four bundles of wrapped paper cut to money size, four car keys and other valuables.

“one chance” robbery suspects on Nov. 11.

The CP said the arrest followed a report from one Bright Ezekiel that, she and her friend, one Rose Augustine, boarded a vehicle from Mogadishu Cantonment to Kubwa but were taken to unknown destination.

He said the victims were robbed of N482,000 and N387,500, respectively, through transfer from their bank accounts by the suspects.

“On receipt of the report, operatives from Asokoro Division swung into action and with the help of the Nigeria Army Intelligence Unit, five suspects were arrested.

“Their operational vehicle, Volkeswagen taxi with Reg. No. AA 958 RYM was recovered,” he said.

The CP said the suspects had confessed to the crime and would be arraigned in court upon completion of investigation.  (NAN)

Joint military troops rescues 12 kidnapped victims in Benue

The joint military operations code named “Operations Whirl Stroke (OPWS, operating in Benue, Nasarawa and Taraba States,, on Friday said, it has rescued 12 kidnapped victims from kidnappers in Ukum LGA of Benue State.

According to the military, the victims who were rescued on 21st February, 2024, at Jootar village in Ukum LGA of Benue State, were on transit from Imo State to Adamawa State.

The Force Commander, OPWS, Major General Sunday Iserihen Igbinomwanhia, who disclosed this , said they have continued to intensify onslaught and aggressive posture in operations against bandits, terrorists and other criminals in their Areas of Operation in the North Central.

He said this recent operation followed credible human Intelligence on the activities of kidnappers.

“Troops of Sector 1 OPWS, on 21st February, 2024, at Jootar village in Ukum LGA of Benue State, rescued 12 kidnapped victims who were on transit from Imo State to Adamawa State.

“The perpetrators took advantage of the abandoned Federal Police Highway checkpoint to carry out their criminal act.

“On sighting the aggressive troops of OPWS with superior fire power, kidnappers fled leaving behind their victims.

“An 18 seater bus belonging to Taraba Express International with Serial Number 212 and Registration Number GKA-371XA TARABA STATE was recovered from the kidnappers den and towed to the troops lication”, he said.

Major General Igbinomwanhia gave the names of the rescued victims as Mr Sule Abu age 55, Mrs Ashie Shuaibu age 26, Master Suleiman Abdullahi age 3, Mrs Zainab Salau age 35, Mr. Muritala Yussuf age 22, Mrs Zainab Saidu age 45 and Mr. Hammed Mamud age 51.

Others are; Mr. Usman Ali age 27, Mr. Nura Abubakar age 24, Mr. Mohammed Aliyu age 20, Mrs Felicia Asusis age 29, and Mr. Jacob Nathaniel age 22.

The FC reiterated that OPWS will continue commit efforts in collaborating with other security agencies in making Benue, Nasarawa and Taraba States safe from any form of criminal activities

He further reassured the general public that OPWS will continue to ensure the safety of lives and properties of all patriotic citizens within the Joint Task Force Joint Operations Area.

Nasarawa: Police Arrest 10 for Allegedly Stealing 45 Children, Recover 6

The Police Command in Nasarawa State has arrested 10 suspected members of a child theft and sale syndicate, who allegedly stole no fewer than 45 children.

The Commissioner of Police, Shehu Nadada, made the disclosure while parading the suspects at the command’s headquarters in Lafia, on Friday.

According to the commissioner, police operatives attached to Keffi Division on routine patrol on Jan.

10,  rescued a man from mob action and upon enquiry discovered that he allegedly abducted a five-year-old boy in Keffi.

He said that the suspect later confessed to being a member of a syndicate that specialised in child theft and sale of same to the highest bidder.

Nadada said that further investigation led to the arrest of nine other members of the syndicate.

He said that further analysis on their mobile phones indicated that they had stolen and sold 45 children, who have been illegally adopted by unsuspecting member of the public across the country.

The commissioner, who did not state the period when the children were stolen, said that most of them were stolen from Abuja, Kaduna, Nasarawa, Plateau and Niger states.

He said that six of the children had been recovered from Abuja, Ondo and Lagos State, while effort was ongoing to arrest more accomplices and recover more of the stolen children.

He further said that the suspects confessed to selling off many children at different prices, from N350,000 to N1.5 million depending on their age and gender.

Nadada disclosed that the suspects usually conspire with some social welfare officers to produce fake documents that facilitated the sale of the children to willing buyers.

The commissioner charged parents to pay more attention to their wards while calling on those seeking to adopt children to be  wary of criminals.(NAN)

Police Arrest Car Theft Syndicate Member in Ogun

The Police Command in Lagos State said it had arrested a suspected member of a car theft syndicate, stealing cars parked anywhere in Ogun and selling them off in Lagos.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest to the newsmen on Tuesday in Lagos.

Hundeyin said that police operatives from Elere Division, who were on stop and search foot patrol on Friday, at about 6.

m., along Agege Motor Road, carried out the arrest.

He said that during a stop and search, the officers intercepted a Sienna Space Bus, with four men in it.

The image maker said that while the officers were questioning the occupants, the four suddenly jumped down from the vehicle and took to their heels.

“They were pursued and one of them, simply identified as John, 28 years, was arrested, while others escaped.

“The suspect claimed he was contracted by one of the fleeing suspects, whose name he claimed he did not know, to drive the vehicle from Abeokuta, Ogun Capital to Ijora in Lagos.

“The suspect also claimed that two of the suspects at Large joined the vehicle on their way to Lagos before the police interception,” he said.

Hundeyin said that preliminary investigation revealed that the said vehicle was removed from where it was parked at Kemta in Ogun.

He said that the suspect and the vehicle were in their custody, while efforts were on to arrest the fleeing members of the syndicate. (NAN)
