Students Scholarship

From Joseph Amedu, Lokoja

The management of Korea – Nigeria Friendship Institute (NKFI) of Vocational and Advanced Technology in Lokoja, Kogi State, has awarded full scholarships to three talented students who recently showcased their exceptional skills during an exhibition where they built an SUV.

The beneficiaries of the scholarship are Samson Emeje (aged 29), Yusuf Ayuba (aged 20), and Tenimu Abubakar (aged 18), all students of Saint Peter’s College, Idah, Kogi State, who recently completed their Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE).

In recognition of their rare technical talents, the Rector, Williams Charles, presented the admission letters to the students at the institute yesterday. Charles stated that the students’ innovative skills and creations, such as the electrically powered Tricycle and SUV jeep, displayed during the 2021 and 2022 STETSCOM Science Exhibition, inspired the institute’s management to offer them full scholarships.

The Rector lauded the students for their use of locally sourced materials in their inventions, emphasizing that individuals with creative minds are special for their ability to transform ideas into tangible reality.

“I’m excited that these young boys, fresh from completing their secondary education, possess such creativity and natural gifts,” said Charles. “As the head of this institution, it is my responsibility to nurture their dreams and help them realize their potential. That’s why I invited them to award them full scholarships to develop their skills, which will play a significant role in the country’s future development.”

Charles stressed the importance of skills acquisition in the technological advancement of any nation and assured that over the next two years, the students would receive training in auto mechanics, electrical work, and welding.

He also highlighted the significance of specialized skills in the 21st century, noting that paper qualifications alone are not sufficient for graduates to thrive in society. He urged smart graduates to take advantage of the institute’s programs tailored for those seeking special skills and National Diploma Certificates approved by the NBTE (National Board for Technical Education).

Commending Governor Yahaya Bello for his unwavering support for the institute, Charles appealed for further assistance to meet the requirements of the forthcoming resources inspection by NBTE.

The Rector and the institute’s management provided the students and their principal with a tour of the instructional facilities in the school. Charles emphasized that graduates of the institution are highly sought after by industries and corporate organizations, and called on politicians, corporate bodies, and governments to support young individuals with natural talents in undertaking life-transforming courses offered by the institute.

He reiterated that the primary goal of the school is not revenue generation, but rather to address unemployment and build the capacity of youths for a better society.

Expressing their gratitude, Samson Emeje, one of the beneficiaries, described the opportunity to study at the institute as a dream come true. He attributed his talent to divine inspiration and thanked NKFI for the scholarships, which will enable them to realize their dreams.

The Principal of Saint Peter’s College, Zakari Jonah, also appreciated the institute for granting the scholarships and pledged to create awareness among secondary school students about the opportunities offered by NKFI for their academic pursuits.

Jonah emphasized that the three students had previously showcased their creations, the SUV car and tricycle, during the 2021 and 2022 Science Exhibition, where representatives from the institute took special interest in their work.

The principal urged governments at all levels to identify talents at the grassroots and develop them through technical and vocational education to foster self-reliance.
