STF Commander Warns Against Ethnic Crisis in Plateau State

The Commanding Officer of the Multi-Agencies Special Task Force, operating in Plateau, part of Kaduna and Bauchi States code named Operation SAFE HAVEN, Major General Chukwuemeka Okonkwo, has warned communities in Plateau state to desist from plunging the state into ethnic crisis.

The Commander who was furious after touring the scene of the attacks in Miango villages frowned at the barbaric act being carried out within the Irigwe Chiefdom leading to the lose of innocent lives including women, children and a pregnant woman in recent times in the farming communities of Bassa LGA.

He gave the warning on Friday, during an operational visit to Kpashio and Rogochongo villages of Irigwe Chiefdom the epicentre of attarcks in Bassa Local Government Area of the state.

Major General Okonkwo assured the natives of his readiness to prevent further attack in the area and other areas under its command through a coordinated operations and constant patrols.


The Media Officer Opration Safe Haven (OPSH) Major Ibrahim Shittu said Mr. Aba Zara who spoke during the visit at Rogochongo village, maintained that the village will remain habitable to indigenes and settlers as a way of managing their differences. But however expressed concerned over the happening in the troubling villages now that farming season is around the corner.
Zara stressed that residents of the villages are peace-loving people whose continuous efforts towards peace building have been sustained over the years and will not relent in doing that. 
It would be recalled that Major General Chukwuemeka Okonkwo assumed office as Commander Operation SAFE HAVEN on 7 April 2020 and has since commenced operational visits to improved on the security situations in areas covered by the operation in the country.

The STF Boss had earlier on hold media interaction with press men at the OPSH Headwaters in Jos and also visited the General Commanding Officer 3 Armour Division, Maxwell Khobe Cantonment Barack near Jos, Major General Nuhu Angbazo all in abid to seek collaborations in ending the security menace within the theatre.

The GOC, Major General Nuhu Angbazo assured that the Division would work closely with Opration Safe Haven (OPSH) in bringing total peace to Plateau State and the Joint Operational Areas respectively.
