We Shall Return to Aso Villa in 2027 – PDP Reps Caucus Says

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caucus in the House of Represebtatives says it must regain the presidency it lost in 2015, as the seat of power had “become our party’s birth right”.

Rep. Chinda Kingsley, the leader of the minority caucus in the House, said this while briefing newsmen after the third meeting of PDP lawmakers in Abuja, on Tuesday.

“We are going back, as we resume the session to commence a strong, virile and purpose-driven opposition to give the people a voice in the parliament,” the Caucus said.

The lawmakers issued a three-months ultimatum to the Federal Government to normalise the security situation in the country.

According to him, government must immediately take steps to ensure that the security situation in the country is normalised.

“We x-rayed the security situation in our country and we resolved that we can no longer take this situation where Nigeria is today almost tagged as ‘one life, one minute silence’.

“After three-months, the caucus will take further steps to sensitise and mobilise Nigerians to take their security into their hands,” the legislators said.

He said the caucus also agreed to call on all party caucuses, the board of trustees, national executive committee and the national working committee of the party to embark on reconciliatory measures.

This, according to him, is with the view to resolve all litigations that are pending and have hindered the party’s quest for a substantive national Chairman.

He called on leaders of the PDP to continue to demonstrate unconditional loyalty to the party and ensure that the party is placed where she enjoyed the position of the largest party in Africa.

He said that PDP members in the House of Reps were united, indivisible, committed and out to perform their duty as the watchdog on behalf of the Nigerian people.(NAN)

Bayelsa Assembly Screened Newly Appointed IGR Board Chairman

From Mike Tayese, Yenagoa
The Speaker of Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abraham Ingobere, representing Brass constituency 3, has tasked the newly nominated Chairman of Board of Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), Dr. Eniekemene Daniel Esetebefa, that he has enormous responsibility to raise the IGR of the state and remit appropriately to the treasury.

According to the speaker, the internally generated revenue for any state is a supplementary source of income to the monthly statutory allocation.

The Speaker handed down this during the screening of Dr. Eniekemene as nominated by  governor Douye Diri to serve as the chairman of the internally generated revenue to replace the former chairman, Prof Nimibofa Ayawei who was recently appointed as the Secretary of the State Government (SSG).

He said, it is a fact that Bayelsa state has a low internally generated revenue among the comity of states as the 30th in the country.
In his words, ” it is mandatory that you enhance the revenue base by not undermining the taxpayer’s ability to pay in order not to create further hardship”.
“Obviously, having known your pedigree and career, we believe and have hope that you will bring your wealth of experience to bear in this your anticipated job. The Bayelsa state expectations are high in terms of increased internally generated revenue and remittances. Therefore, it is seen as a veritable avenue for both national and subnational governments for revenue generation.”
Answering questions from some of the lawmakers about what he can do to jack up the revenue and to block leakages in the state, Dr. Eniekemene, said the attitude of the revenue collectors have to change towards investors. “A lot of companies are running away from Bayelsa because of arbitrary taxes. Unless the matter is urgently addressed, the state will continue to lose revenue.”
As regards the blockage of leakages, he will do what he can with the help of others to work out the modality of how to go about it. ” For the way and manner some youths are collecting revenue in the state will be looked into.
I will find out as soon as I assume duty to know whether they have authority to collect revenue for the state.”
Speaking further, to boost the IGR of the state, investors should be giving tax holidays and a more friendly environment for investors. “Many investors are not coming to Bayelsa state because of the way they are being harassed by the revenue collectors and that has to be discouraged”.
Some of the lawmakers who drilled the nominated Chairman included, Hon. Wisdom Fafi representing Kolokuma/Opokuma Constituency 2, Hon. Micheal Igbere representing Ekeremor Constituency 3, Hon. Monday Edwin Obolo Leader of the House representing Southern Ijaw Constituency 2, Hon. Charles Daniel representing Brass constituency  1 and Hon. Bernard Sunday Kenibai representing Sagbama Constituency 2.
In her word of advice, Hon. Ebizi Ndiomu representing Sagbama Constituency 3 said the nominee should bring his wealth of experience to bear. ” As a retired permanent secretary in the ministry of finance, in case you are cleared, try and make a difference in the state IGR. Work with others in order to achieve results.”
Dr. Eniekemene Daniel Esetebefa is from Ayamasa in Ekeremor Local government area of the state.
