President Muhammadu Buhari Wednesday charged his new cabinet members on the need to deliver on his administration’s Next Level Agenda to the 200 million people in  Nigeria by implementing policies and programmes that will improve the lives of the ordinary citizens.

The President said that the safety, security and prosperity of Nigeria’s 200 million people “are our responsibility, we must not fail them.

Speaking during the maiden Federal Executive Council Meeting (FEC) of his second term administration, Buhari stressed that “As a government our focus must remain that of safeless service.

President Buhari said that he expected all the ministers to double your efforts in this second term.

For the new cabinet members, the President said, the weekly meeting presents an opportunity to know their fellow ministers and exchange ideas with a goal of perfecting his government’s stated policies which will positively impact on Nigerians.

According to him, in the recently concluded elections, “the majority of Nigerians who voted for us gave us a clear mandate – to enhance the security of lives and property across the entire country; create a diversified and inclusive economy that will bring prosperity to all, and to instal governance and accountability in our systems and processes, thereby eliminating corruption.”

“All ideas and projects that will contribute to achieving these goals shall be foremost in our deliberations.

“For returning ministers, my decision to appoint you is best on merit. During our first term, you executed your mandate diligently in a patriotic manner.”

“To enhance service delivery, we decided to restructure some functions which led to the creation of new ministries to achieve our goal of economic diversification and inclusive growth.

“For example, we merged the ministry of finance with that of budget and national planning, we also created a ministry for humanitarian affairs and disasters management and social development to fully institutionalized our various interventions that support some of the poorest and most distressed citizens of our country,” he added.

The president while explaining the rationale behind the splitting of the ministry of power, works and housing and ministry of transportation and aviation, said it would improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the nation’s infrastructure delivery programmes and projects.

He added: “On security, keeping in mind the need to improve on our achievements, we created the ministry of police affairs whose purpose is to oversee the development and implementation of strategies that will enhanced Nigeria’s internal security in synergy with other security and intelligence agencies.

“This will include supporting the re-establishment of civil authority in the liberated areas of the north east.”

On the role of Senator George Akume’s new ministry, President Buhari said, said that he created the ministry of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs to manage key projects and initiatives of the presidency.

“The minister’s the role will include coordinating of multi-agencies and inter-ministry functions as designated by the President,” he added.

President Buhari said that he had instructed the Secretary to the Government of the Federation to draft a schedule of ministerial responsibilities for his review and final approval.

“As I said during the recent retreat, we must work in harmony with each other. Communication and team work are the hallmarks of success,” he reiterated.

The president tasked all the ministers to keep in mind the oath they took three weeks ago and work selflessly for the good of the citizens.

The Forum of Stakeholders of the All Progressive Congress (APC), has advised the embattled National Chairman of the Party, Abdullahi Ganduje, to resign from the position.

Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, the North-Central Chairman of the forum, gave the advice in an interview with newsmen on Tuesday, in Jos.

Zazzaga said the calls from different quarters for the removal of Ganduje from office, and his insistence on retaining his position spelt doom for the party.

He querried the decision of party’s stakeholders from the North-West, who passed a vote of confidence on Ganduje, insisting that such decisions would only throw the party into serious confusion.

”There have been several votes of no confidence passed on Ganduje; from his Kano Ward, as well as other protests, litigations, among other agitations against him.

”But his insistence to remain in office will only take the APC backward and tear the party apart.

”Ganduje already has a lot of issues surrounding him, and the best thing for him is to quit so that he doesn’t cause any harm or constitute a legal liability for the party,” Zazzaga stressed.

According to him, the position of the national chairman of the party should naturally go to the north-central region, and called on the party to consider zoning it to the region.

”Based on party arrangements, someone from north-central should have replaced the former national chairman, Abdullahi Adamu, not Ganduje who is from the north west.

“In the spirit of fairness and equity, the chairmanship position should be occupied by someone from the north-central region.

”We are also part of the ruling party and have played a key role in the emergence of President Bola Tinubu,” he maintained.

Reports says that Zazzaga was a member of the APC Presidential Campaign Council in the last general election. (NAN)

Ogun APC Chides Gbenga Daniel for Criticizing Agro-Cargo Airport, others

Kunle Idowu, Abeokuta

Ogun State chapter of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has knocked the former Governor of the State and Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, over his recent interview on some of the projects going on in the State.

Daniel, in a recent interview said he initiated some important projects which were under reported due to ‘bad press’,  including the iconic Gateway Agro-Cargo Airport started by the administration of Prince Dapo Abiodun about three years ago and nearly completed with the longest runway and largest apron in Nigeria and West Africa corridor.

Reacting to Daniel’s statement on Sunday, Tunde Oladunjoye, the Publicity Secretary of APC in the State, said the statement credited to Daniel was nothing but a product of hallucination by a serial failure.

He insisted that the lawmaker did nothing to suggest seriousness of his administration to build any airport in the State, adding that the former governor in his usual character merely announced the proposed airport and the intending location as mere political statement for immediate gains.

According to Oladunjoye, the area proposed for the airport by Daniel’s administration remained a thick forest while billions of naira were siphoned under the guise of consultancy for the implementation of the project.

“Unlike the deceptive 8-year administration of Daniel, that was characterized with high level of fraud, political assassination and widespread brigandage,  Abiodun came on board with integrity, and purposeful leadership skill, which is practically responsible for the remarkable success his administration had recorded in the last five years, and the reason for the present headache of his hitherto traducers, including Gbenga Daniel.

“Setting the record straight, like many other failed Governors of Daniel type, who merely made political statements about projects to manipulate people’s emotions and deceive them for political gains, the Agro-Cargo Airport situated at Ilisan-Iperu axis of the State was just one of the many areas where Otunba Gbenga Daniel failed the people of Ogun State very woefully.

“Gbenga Daniel,  after announcing construction of an Airport in the year 2006, the area earmarked for the project remained a tick forest till 2019 when Prince Dapo Abiodun came into the saddle. Daniel’s successor, Ibikunle Amosun based on the nature of his personality and pattern of reasoning did not even open the file of the proposed Airport throughout his eight years in office, the same way Daniel abandoned all the projects left behind by his predecessor, Aremo Olusegun Osoba.

“The recent interview of having the grand or master plan for what Governor Dapo Abiodun has been accomplishing is not only self-ridiculing, it is simply a sheer hallucination of a serial failure and shameful acceptance of failure on the part of Mr. Gbenga Daniel. His interview and comment on Governor Dapo Abiodun reek of deep envy and insensitive lack of modesty,” Oladunjoye averred.

The Ogun APC Publicity Secretary further took a swipe on the former Governor,  asserting that his ineptitude, deceptive tendency, and maladministration were responsible for his unpopular administration and not bad press as he claimed.
