Kebbi Settles N456m WAEC fees – Commissioner




The Kebbi State Government has approved the payment of remaining balance of more than N456 million to West African Examinations Council (WAEC) for the 2022 West African School Certificate Examination (WASC).

Dr Muhammadu Magawata-Aliero, Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education in the state, disclosed this while addressing newsmen in Birnin Kebbi, the state capital on Monday.

He said: “The Kebbi State Government has approved the payment of N456,596,000 to West African Examinations Council (WAEC) for the 2022 West African School Certificate Examination (WASC).

“This is in addition to N100 million paid to WAEC in April 2022, being deposit, thus, bringing the total payment to N556.5 million.”

The Commissioner recalled that the state government sponsored 30,922 candidates for the 2022 WASC at a registration fee of N18,000 per candidate.

Magawata-Aliero added that government had also approved N2.6 million cost of materials and extra supervision. (NAN)

Court Strikes out NANS Suit against FG, ASUU




The National Industrial Court,on Tuesday struck out a suit filed by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) to compel the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to call off the ongoing strike.

The judge, Justice Polycarp Hamman in the ruling terminated further proceedings in the matter after it was withdrawn by the claimant, Umar Lawal.

From facts, Lawal had filed the suit which was mentioned on Sept.16, for himself and on behalf of NANS against the Minister of Education, ASUU and the Attorney-General of the Federation.

However, when the matter slated for hearing came up on Tuesday, Lawal notified the court that he had filed a motion for discontinuance.

He added that he premised his decision to withdraw the suit on account of the challenge by NANS which contested his position as its president in the affidavit he had deposed to.

After Lawal submitted his application, the court asked if Marshal Abubakar, counsel to ASUU had any objection, he informed the court that he was not opposed to Lawal’s application to withdraw the suit.

The other defendants were however, had no legal representation in court.( NAN)

ASUU Strike: FG Reverses it Decision To Re-open Varsities.

The Federal Government has withdrew its circular which directed vice-chancellors, pro-chancellors and governing councils to re-open Federal Universities.

 Daily Asset reported earlier that a circular tagged NUC/ES/138/Vol.64/135 was addressed to all vice-chancellors; Pro-Chancellors and chairmen of governing councils of federal universities ordering them to re-open universities.


But in another circular tagged NUC/ES/138/Vol.64/136 which was also signed by the Director, finance and account of the NUC, Sam Onazi, the commission withdrew the order.

Though it did not explain why.

The letter tagged, “withdrawal of circular NUC/ES/138/Vol.64/135 dated 23rd September 2022” partly reads, “ I have been directed to withdraw the National Universities Commission (NUC) Circular Ref: NUC/ES/138/Vol.

64/135, and dated 23″ September 2022 on the above


“Consequently, the said Circular stands

withdrawn. All Pro-Chancellors and Chairmen of Governing Councils, as well as Vice-Chancellors of Federal Universities are to please note. Further development and information would be communicated to all relevant stakeholders.

“Please accept the assurances of the Executive Secretary’s warmest regards”.

FG Commences Activities to Commemorate 2022 World Teachers Day.

The Federal Government has commenced activities to Commemorate the  2022 World Teachers Day. 

The theme for the year 2022 WTD which is “The Transformation of Education Begins with Teachers” strongly stresses the importance of empowering teachers for the effective transformation of education to ensure quality teaching and learning as well as galvanise technological advancements to meet the ever changing needs for national growth and development.

According Mallam Adamu Adamu, the Ministry of Education started this year’s preparation with a call for nomination instruments, attached therein, to State Ministries of Education and Federal Unity Colleges nationwide for the objective selection of meritorious nominees.

 He added that the champions so selected would then compete for National Best School, Best Teacher and Best School Administrator in the Public, Private and Federal Unity Colleges categories.


The Minister further stated  that the national implementation of the New National Teaching Policy has commenced.

”It is a holistic package that will ultimately address the career path, remuneration, professional teaching standards, qualification, deployment and management of teachers”. 

Speaking at the conference, the National President of Nigerian Union of Teachers appreciated President Muhammadu Buhari for signing into law the “Harmonized Retirement Age for Teachers in Nigeria Bill”which provides for retirement of teachers on attainment of 65 years or 40 years of pensionable service.
