My Contributions to p, Communities Not Act of Charity But a Duty, Appreciation – Ex-Reps Deputy Minority Whip, Adekoya
By Mike Odiakose, Abuja
Former Deputy Minority Whip of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abdel-Majid Adesegun Adekoya has declared that his contributions to schools, communities and several organizations are not act of Charity but act of duty and appreciation.
He made the declaration at the weekend in a speech delivered at the Ago-Iwoye Secondary School 70th Anniversary Celebration in Ogun State where he was honoured by the old students association.
“It is with a profound sense of humility and overwhelming gratitude that I stand before you today to receive an honour—especially one that comes from the very foundation that shaped me, Ago-Iwoye Secondary School—is the greatest recognition a former student can hope for.
“The Association, in its incredibly generous citation, mentioned a few of my humble efforts to support our great institution.
“Let me be clear: these were not acts of charity, but acts of duty and appreciation. It is a fundamental responsibility for every student who benefits from this school to find ways to contribute to the next generation.
“You highlighted the supply and installation of the 500 KVA Transformer—not just once, but twice—to ensure a consistent power supply.
“You pointed out the comprehensive renovation of a block of seven classrooms, providing brighter, safer learning environments for our children.
“You acknowledged the comprehensive renovation of the dilapidated school library, giving our students a modern sanctuary for knowledge. And most recently, the supply and installation of ten desktop computer workstations in that very library.
“To the National Executive of AISSOSA, these projects were not done to seek recognition. They were done because, in my heart, I know that the quality of the student is intrinsically tied to the quality of the learning environment. Investing in AISS is investing directly in the future of our community and our nation.
“I accept this award, not just for myself, but as a commitment—a fresh mandate—to continue to champion the development of Ago-Iwoye Secondary School. I am deeply honoured to be counted among those who strive to make AISS the very best it can be.”
In his own speech, the chairman of the Coordinating Committee for AISS 1975/1980 Set, Pastor Adegbenro Adenuga,
declared that Hon Adekoya was honouredbfor his outstanding contributions to their alma mater.
“Ambassador Adekoya’s dedication to AISS’s growth and development is a shining example of servant-leadership. His selfless efforts have not only impacted the school but also inspired countless students.
“As we gather for the 70th anniversary celebration, we honor Ambassador Adekoya’s legacy. His award is a testament to his commitment to excellence and community service.”

Senator Araraume Backs Tinubu for Second Term
By Mike Odiakose, Abuja
Senator Ifeanyi Araraume has declared support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Araraume, who spoke to newsmen at his Isiebu country home in Okigwe LGA, said Tinubu has the constitutional right to seek a second term, insisting that the president has performed well and deserves another four years to consolidate ongoing reforms.
He cautioned against what he described as inaccurate narratives about the ruling party and the nation’s political structure, stressing that Nigeria is not a one-party state.
According to him, Nigeria operates a multiparty democracy with more than 40 registered political parties, a development he said clearly reflects democratic freedom and political plurality.
Araraume said every Nigerian has the freedom to join any political party of choice, noting that members who joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) were neither forced nor coerced.
He explained that political realignments are not new in the country, recalling that similar movements occurred during the era of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Araraume said the APC functions as one family, with collaboration across the federal, state, and local government levels, adding that the party remains united behind President Tinubu’s re-election bid.
He disclosed that the APC has commenced an electronic registration exercise, urging existing members to validate their membership while encouraging new entrants to register.
Speaking on Imo State, Araraume said Governor Hope Uzodimma is currently serving his final tenure, expressing confidence that whoever the party presents would be competent and acceptable.
He said the party would support its eventual candidates across all levels in the state, adding that while there is always room for improvement in governance, issues identified would be constructively addressed.
Araraume also recalled his role in Tinubu’s presidential campaign in 2023, saying the president appointed him then as national director of trade and economy for Southern Nigeria, covering the South East, South South, and South West, noting that if given another opportunity, Tinubu would deliver even stronger performance.
