Ortom Signs Amended  Benue Internal Revenue Bill into Law

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has signed into law the state’s Amended Benue Internal Revenue Administration Law.

The bill was recently passed into law by the state House of Assembly.

Governor Ortom while signing the law at the Benue People’s House, Makurdi, the state capital stated that all operators of illegal revenue collection checkpoints in the State will be treated like armed robbers when apprehended and warned them to steer clear of revenue collection in the state.

“We will treat operators of illegal revenue checkpoints as criminals,” Ortom said.

He explained that revenue collection in the state had been contracted to consultants and urged interested persons to work with them, stressing that anyone caught operating illegally will be treated like a criminal.

Ortom acknowledged the decline in revenue generation and the need to improve on all areas to be able to cater for the needs of the state.

He thanked members of the Benue State House of Assembly for the speedy passage of the amended bill and pledged sustained cordial working relationship between the executive and the legislature.

Deputy Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Hon Christopher Adaji who represented the Speaker said the amendments were done after due consultations with critical stakeholders and relevant provisions of the law.

Stay Clear from Bayelsa, CP Warned Killers Herdsmen

The Bayelsa state Police Command has warned suspected killers herdsmen to stay clear from the state or face the wrath of the law.

Commissioner of Police Bayelsa state command, Francis Idu gave the warning during the decoration ceremony of 69 newly promoted officers at the state police Officers Mess in Yenagoa the state capital.
According to Idu, the Bayelsa state government gives out the Bayelsa palm generously for cattle activities contiguous to the cattle market.
Saying any form of activities outside this place is a direct affront on the state government.The commissioner further warned that anyone who wants to arm twist the state, “I think the person might be joking, the airport is almost threatened by gracing, airport is a no go area for intruders, even citizens who intrude into that place see the consequences on them.
If you take your cattle to the airport to go and graze, you are challenging the state”.Meanwhile the Commissioner of Police Bayelsa state Command Francis Idu on Monday extended profound gratitude to the Inspector General of Police IGP Kayode Egbetokun who said that Men and Officers are promptly promoted and rewarded for their investment on security governance All over the country particularly in Bayelsa state .He said the IGP since assumption of office as inspector general make sure hard working officers and Men of the Nigerian police force are promoted as at when due.While addressing the newly promoted officers at Police Officers Mess in Yenagoa the state capital said, much madam is also expected from the newly promoted officers by putting in their best in securing life and properties.He said the state command flew over 18 hours with about 8 drones on a daily basis. Saying they are doing all they can to make sure citizens are free from fear. “The invasion of farming communities by those who stole cows and tried to direct these cows from the reach of their owners and used these cows to terrorize the citizens,we won’t take it lightly”.

Ilorin Traders Protest against Fence Erection

The Kwara state security operatives, including officers of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force, have taken over the entrance of Challenge Market to restore orderliness following a protest started by traders since Monday and Tuesday.

The protest, which disrupted business activities in the area, was staged by the traders to express grievances over the newly constructed fence by the state government which has restricted access to the market and therefore has caused drastic change in sales for the traders.
When Daily Asset visited the market yesterday noon and today there was a heavy presence of security operatives stationed at strategic points around the market entrance.
The operatives were seen monitoring movements and ensuring that activities remained peaceful.Despite the protection, there was no report of any damage or injuries as normalcy had returned to the market, while the traders resumed their usual normal business activities, and the once-tense atmosphere had faded out to a sense of calmness. However, many shop owners were seen engaging in transactions without interference.

C’River Govt Restates Regulations on Refuse Disposal

The Government of Cross River State has restated its position on regulations guiding refuse disposal in the state, especially within the Calabar metropolis.

A release made available by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Duties, Ekpenyong Akiba, noted that 6pm to 10pm everyday remains the period for refuse disposal, adding that enforcement agents have been recruited and will be stationed at strategic refuse points to bring defaulters to book.
Similarly, the government also put a total ban on all refuse scavengers, as their activities, according to the government, pose serious security concerns for citizens.The government warned perpetrators to desist forthwith as security agents have been mandated to arrest and prosecute perpetrators.
