Tangale Group Accuses Gombe Gov of Inciting Genocide

From Jude Dangwam, Jos
The socio-cultural organization of the Tangale speaking natives of Gombe State, known as Tangale Community Development Association (TDA), has accused Gombe State Governor, Mohammadu Inuwa Yahaya of making inciting remarks capable of causing genocide in the state and the country at large.
The organization led by ‘Sarkin Zangon Tangale’, who is a member of the Trustees of the socio-cultural body, Dr.
Daniel Maddo, said Governor Inuwa has continued to oppress the Tangale nation of Gombe State, even after imposing a none native, who only scored two votes against the popular candidate that got five votes as the ‘Mai Tangale’ against the will of the people. He made these accusations during a world press conference held at weekend in Jos, the Plateau State capital.
Maddo said the mysterious dead of the late Mai Tangale, HRM Dr. Abdu Buba Maisheru II created a vacuum that led to the imposition of “One Mallam Danladi Sanusi Maishanu” by the Governor even when he got ‘only two votes’ with Dr. Musa Idris Maiyamba’ who go five votes of the kingmakers with the third person scoring two votes respectively.
They alleged that Governor Inuwa has continued to violet various provisions of the State Chieftaincy Law as well as the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and has been making utterances that are capable of causing genocide.
Dr. Maddo fingered the Governor as the masterminds to the lingering uproar in the Southern Senatorial District of Gombe State as accused to have brought “over 500 security personnel as well as political thugs known as Yan Kalare in addition to the high caliber government functionaries and officials and other security outfits during the election of Mai Tangale to intimidate the Tangale people.”
He said, “In spite of the flaws in the process and the actions of the Governor, the intimidation and financial inducement to the Tangale Kingmakers, they courageously voted Dr. Musa Idris Maiyamba in tandem with the Tangale Native Law and Custom emerging as the new Mai Tangale and was celebrated by the Tangale people.
“But unfortunately, the popular decision of the people was jettisoned against the principle of natural justice, equity and good conscience.”
Dr. Maddo added, “the Governor continue to make inciting utterances inimical to peace, confirming his actions” on the ordeal the Tangale people are passing through which was not done on the Emir of Funakaye who died after Mai Tangale and could not in any way interfere with the process that brought on board the current Emir of Funakaye in the state.
The body cautioned thus, “Mallam Danaldi Sanusi Maiyamba (Danladi Maishanu) should stop parading himself as the Mai Tangale in the interest of peace, tranquility and good governance.”
They maintained that in line with the Gombe State Chieftaincy Law and the 1999 constitution as amended.
“Dr. Musa Idris Maiyamba is the duly elected and recognized 16th Mai Tangale” and cautioned that the Governor must not incite other groups against the Tangale nation with his utrances as such will lead to ‘genocide.’
