Saudi Arabian World Champion Yazeed bin Mohammed Al-Rajhi is set to resume competition at Baja Espana Aragon 2026 following its postponement due to wildfires in areas close to the route.

The event was rescheduled as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of competitors, teams, and spectators.

The 42nd edition of Baja Aragon will see a change in Al Rajhi’s driver line-up after his German co-driver Timo Gottschalk suffered rib fractures following a motorcycle accident.

His fellow German co-driver, Dennis Zenz stepped in instead.

Al-Rajhi will compete behind the wheel of the Toyota Hilux T1+ prepared by the Belgian Overdrive Racing team in the fifth round of the 2026 FIA World Cup for Cross-Country Bajas.

The event takes place in Teruel, Aragon, in northeastern Spain and brings together some of the world’s leading cross-country rally competitors.

Considered one of the most prestigious and historic baja events in the world since its first edition in 1983, Baja Aragon continues to attract top international talent.

The rally covers a total distance of 810.11 kilometers, including 488.68 kilometers of competitive sections, divided into a 6.48-kilometer Prologue, a first stage covering 331.15 kilometers, and a final stage of 151.07 kilometers. The route features fast gravel and dirt tracks, combined with technical sections that demand maximum concentration and precision from drivers and co-drivers.

Al-Rajhi has already completed this season in the Dakar Rally 2026, as well as the Portugal and Argentina rounds of the FIA World Rally-Raid Championship. His participation in the FIA World Cup for Cross-Country Bajas was limited to the opening round in Ha’il, as part of a gradual program to regain full physical readiness following his rehabilitation period.

The Saudi World Champion aims to deliver a strong performance at Baja Aragon and continue competing at the highest level of international cross-country rallying, despite the last-minute change in his co-driver line-up.

Speaking ahead of the event, he said: “First of all, I wish Timo a speedy recovery and hope to see him back in competition soon. Changing the co-driver shortly before the rally is a new challenge, but Dennis is an experienced co-driver, and we are ready to compete and give our best.

“The decision to postpone the rally was made to ensure everyone’s safety. We are looking forward to returning to competition at one of the toughest and most historic Baja events in the world. Our goal is to deliver a strong performance and achieve the best possible result.”

Canadian boxer George Chuvalo, a five-time national heavyweight champion, has died at the age of 89.

Out of 93 total professional fights in his career – 73 victories, 18 losses, and two draws – Chuvalo was never once knocked down to the canvas.

“His photos have hung on our walls for decades.

His stories have been passed down from one generation of fighters to the next,” said Sully’s Boxing, the Toronto gym where he trained, in a statement.

He battled Muhammad Ali in 1966 and 1972, and though Chuvalo lost both fights, Ali called him the toughest guy he ever fought.

Chuvalo was born in 1937 to Croatian immigrant parents, grew up in Toronto and got into boxing at a young age.

Widely considered “Canada’s greatest warrior”, Chuvalo was known for his iron chin, relentless durability, and fights against world famous fighters like George Foreman, Joe Frazier, and Ali.

“George Chuvalo was a heavyweight boxing legend, a family friend and a Canadian icon,” Ontario Premier Doug Ford wrote on social media.

“My thoughts are with all of George’s family and loved ones as we mourn his passing.”

After retiring from professional boxing in 1978, Chuvalo travelled the country as a public speaker advocating for anti-drug education and mental health awareness.

Chuvalo lost three sons and his wife to drug overdoses and suicide, he has said.

“I’d like to think if you’re ever tempted with the idea of doing drugs, or you ever flirt with doing drugs, I hope you think of me, George Chuvalo, and what drugs did to my family,” he once said, according to a CBC Radio report in 1998.

In retirement, Chuvalo also dipped his toes in acting, appearing in the 1998 comedy film Dirty Work and alongside Jeff Goldblum in the 1986 horror film The Fly.

He also served as a guest commentator for major boxing matches and co-hosted a TV boxing program called Greatest Knockouts with his friend and fellow fighter Charles “Spider” Jones.

Chuvalo is survived by his eldest son Mitch, daughter Vanessa, grandchildren, and second wife Joanne.

He died on Saturday, his birthday, said Sully’s Boxing Gym.

Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli won the Spanish Grand Prix after McLaren’s Lando Norris lost out because of the bad timing of a virtual safety car.

Norris was leading comfortably from pole position when the VSC was called on lap 15.

The timing was terrible for the world champion – he had already passed the pit exit when the VSC was called.

That meant Antonelli and Verstappen were able to pit under the VSC, saving time, while the caution period ended before Norris could make it around to the pits again.

He did then come in but, to make matters worse, the stop was slow and he rejoined in fifth place.

Norris was able to recover only to third around this track where overtaking is next to impossible.

Antonelli’s eighth win in 14 races this year puts an even tighter stranglehold on the championship for the Italian.

He is now 81 points ahead of team-mate George Russell, who finished fifth after a difficult race on a confusing strategy, and 101 clear of Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton, who retired early on with brake failure.

Norris knew that holding on to the lead would be tough from pole but he robustly defended from Antonelli into the first corner.

The Mercedes driver cut the chicanes at Turns One and Two, and again at Turns Five and Six, each time getting into the lead, each time having to give it back.

After that, Norris set about building a lead and looked to be in control of the race as he extended his lead progressively, moving 5.6 seconds clear 10 laps in, and 6.2 when Lance Stroll’s Aston Martin stopped at Turn 20 with brake failure.

The VSC was called, but Norris had already reached the pit straight, while Antonelli and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen had not and could come in.

Norris came in the next time around, but the VSC ended a couple of corners before he reached the entry to the pits, allowing the cars still on track to get back up to racing speed – a stop under a safety car saves a driver about 10 seconds over one under green-flag conditions.

To make matters worse, McLaren’s mechanics had trouble with both the right-hand side wheels, and the stop took seven seconds rather than the usual two.

Norris came out in fifth place, 6.3secs behind Russell, and his hopes of winning were gone.
