We’ll Complete Sagbama-Ekeremor Road in First Tenure – Diri

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has expressed satisfaction with work on the second phase of the Sagbama-Ekeremor road project in the Bayelsa West Senatorial District.

Governor Diri, who defied the rains on Wednesday to inspect the 42-kilometre road from Toru-Orua to Ekeremor, told newsmen at Aleibiri that the project would be completed in his first tenure.

The road, which was started by his predecessor, is one of several ongoing similar projects embarked upon by Governor Diri’s Prosperity Administration.

He said if the contractor kept to the terms of the contract, all sections of the road would be completed as scheduled.

Diri assured the people of Bayelsa West of his commitment to fulfill his promises to them.

“I can actually see value for money. I am satisfied and I believe that the terms of the contract would be kept. The contractor promised to deliver the project on time as scheduled.

“We also told Bayelsans that in this first tenure we shall hit Ekeremor. The terms of the contract are such that it is tailored towards the end of our first tenure. Hopefully and by God’s grace we expect that this road and this stretch would be completed in no distant time,” he said.

Also speaking, the Project Manager for Sectraco Construction Company, Engr. I. Julian, said the road is divided into two sections – Toru-Orua to Aleibiri (28km) and Aleibiri to Ekeremor (14km).

The project manager said at the moment, more work was being done on section one while some level of progress had being achieved on section two.

Julian commended the governor for consistently inspecting project sites, which he said contributed to the progress recorded so far.

He promised that the company would give its best to the state by delivering quality projects and on time too.


NYSC Extends 10 Corps Members’ Service Year, Remobilises 2 in Plateau




The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Plateau has extended the service year of 10 corps members and remobilised two others for abscondment and absenteeism during their service year.

The state Coordinator of the NYSC in Plateau, MS Caroline Embu, disclosed this on Thursday in Jos at the official passing out ceremony of the 2020 Batch “B” Stream 1 of the scheme.

According to Embu, the 10 corps member will have their service year extended to various periods for absenteeism and abscondment.

While the two other corps members,she said, had been remobilised to repeat the service in another state with half allowance, for absenting themselves from their respective places of primary assignment for over three months.

She also disclosed that that six corps members would be given the State Award for their outstanding performances during their service.

The state coordinator commended the successfully discharged corps members for making an impact in their host communities.

She urged them to be good ambassadors of the NYSC even as they had completed their service.

She also enjoined them not to embark on night trips due to the challenges associated with such journeys,advising them to break their trips once it was night.

A total of 1, 320 corps members of the 2020 “B” stream 1 deployed to the state were successfully discharged at the ceremony.(NAN)

Police Disperse #EndSARS Protesters in Kwara

Men of the Kwara State Police Command, yesterday morning dispersed a cluster of #EndSARS protesters who gathered in front of MAMTESS supermarket at Taiwo Isale area, in Ilorin, the state capital.

Our correspondent gathered that the protesters had agreed to gather opposite the Supermarket with the intention of marching to Post Office, Challenge area and then government house to meet Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

One of the organisers, simply identified as Comrade Jamiu confirmed that they had hardly taken off from Taiwo Isale, when the fully armed anti riot police officers dispersed them.

“The police dispersed us when we were about taking off, at Taiwo Isale,” he said. 

He said they were plotting to regroup and hold a candle light procession at other location which he didn’t disclose and was yet to hold as at the time of filing this report.

Armed security men, including the Army, Police and Civil Defence personnel have since Tuesday evening been dispatched to guard public utilities such as Post Office and Government House in the state capital in case the #EndSARS decide to stage protest in any location.

As at yesterday evening, fully armed police officers were seen at Post office, Challenge and Unity areas where protest usually take place.

Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Ajayi Okasanmi, explained that the presence of security personnel in strategic places in the state capital was to prevent breakdown of law and order and to safeguard public utilities.

He said the reason behind the heavy presence of security operatives is to forestall calamities, damages that might arise because of the protest.

He added that youth stakeholders in the state have been engaged, but to make sure no attacks are being carried on in the State, they are doing proactive policing.

Kwara Plans Three Intra-Africa Trade Fairs

The Kwara State Government has reiterated its commitment to the creating enterprising environment and supporting people with innovative ideas that can transform the economic fortune of the state for good.

This commitment was reaffirmed yesterday by the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRasaq on Job Creation, Mallam Aliyu Alhassan, while speaking with newsmen on one of the programmes designed by the Governor AbdulRasaq led administration to better economy fortune of the state, tagged: “Kwara Pitch Competition”.

Alhassan called on the people with innovative ideas to apply for the competition through Kwara State Government Facebook account said “the competition is open to young business owners who will pitch their product, service, or prototype to a team of successful men and women from different industries, noting that winners of the competition will be having opportunity to get trainings, mentorship, and several other opportunities to scale their brand”

Alhassan added that the aim of the project is to scale up the economy fortune of the state and create abundant opportunities, saying “we are hoping to scale up businesses that will in turn create jobs and project our state on the map of innovations, enterprise, technology and development.

These are part of the core goals of Mallam AbdulRazaq led administration” he said

Talking on the application processes, Alhassan, said “we have published an e-form that will allows intending participants to answer questions relating to their businesses, added that the electronics form inquires about the personality of the business, current investors, among others”

He, stated further that for the purpose of clarity of the business identity, “applications are required to upload a presentation of 2 minutes video, which is expected to answer four questions, such as; the product/service, the targeted problem to solve, the uniqueness and the team members behind it.”

He, however implore young people with innovative ideas to apply said “three best winners will be wholly funded by the state government to the upcoming Intra-Africa Trade Fair in South Africa by November 15 to 21 of his year.”
