FRSC Advises Abia Tricyclists, Motorcyclists to get Licence Before Deadline

The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Abia, Mr Meshach Jatau, on Wednesday advised tricycle and motorcycle riders to get their mandatory rider’s licence and number plates before October 2.

Jatau told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Umuahia that the proposed Oct. 2 enforcement date for the clampdown was a national policy to stem the tide of insecurity in the country.

According to him, defaulters will face the consequences of the law.

“The enforcement which was earlier slated for Aug. 1, 2019 was shifted to Oct. 2, 2019, following further consultations between the FRSC and Joint Tax Board (JTB).

“I urge riders to avail themselves of the grace period to register as there would be no longer grace on the  proposed enforcement date’’.

According to the FRSC Abia boss, the reports by the FRSC show there are more of crashes involving tricyclists and motorcyclists because they are not really trained.

He said that tricycle and mototrainedriders must be trained in an FRSC accredited drivers training school  before they are issued the licence.

“One of the major causes of the road crashes is improper road use; You wake up one day, buy a vehicle and put it on the road.

“But if you are getting a driver’s licence, you are going through a training process where you will be exposed to the rudiments of driving,” he said.

The commander, therefore, called for the collaboration of the security agencies to ensure total compliance of the enforcement in the state. (NAN)
