Lawan Calls for National Unity, Peace in Senate

The Senate President, Senator Ahmad Lawan has urged Nigerians to continue to pray for peace in the Senate for the betterment of the nation.

He also called for national unity irrespective of party affiliation, ethnicity and religion.

Lawan, who spoke yesterday during the thanksgiving service to commemorate Senator Akon Eyakenyi, who represents Eket (South) Senatorial District of the state on her 60th birthday at Destiny International Missions Church in Uyo, described the celebrant as a hardworking senator since the commencement of the 9th senate, stressing that others should borrow a leaf from her commitment to service.

He warned politicians across party lines to desist from commencing 2023 campaign, but to focus on delivery the mandate on which they were voted into office by the electorate.

Lawan assures that though the country like other nations is facing challenges, one day it will triumph over all the challenges.

“Akwa Ibom State has great senators; this is because they exert seriousness in their function. I celebrate Senator Akon Eyakenyi on her 60th birthday. She is a very hardworking woman, always working for the good of her constituency in the Senate.

“We should work together irrespective of political, ethnicity and religion for the betterment of our dear country. What is before us should not be 2023, but the people that voted us into the position of power,” he said.

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel commended the Senate President for leading a peaceful senate, describing him as a man of peace.

Emmanuel praised all the politicians who graced the occasion irrespective of political leaning, adding such act is a clarion call for unity in the nation.

The Governor expressed gratitude to God for the life of Senator Eyakenyi.

He warned politicians in the state not to distract his attention with consultations and political campaigns for the 2023 elections rather that he wanted to work for the greater good of the state.

“I appreciate the Senate President for leading first ever peaceful senate. Today is another great day, because when you see people coming from all political divide like this, it is a call for unity.

“I have known Eyakenyi to be devoted woman, I am satisfied with her representation in the senate so far and I as well as my wife and my family join her in thanking God for her life.

“I have no power to anoint anybody for governor in 2023 until God reveal him to me and let me warn that nobody should come for consultation because I want to work and bring in more investors in the state in the year 2020”, he added

Meanwhile, Senator Eyakenyi expressed gratitude to God for helping her overcame all the challenges that face her since childhood, adding that her political victories have always been a miracle.
