Gov Yusuf Appoints Sanusi Lamido Kano Emir
Gov. Abba Yusuf of Kano State on Thursday signed the amended Kano State Emirates Council bill into law.
The bill, which was passed by the Kano State House of Assembly few hours earlier, dissolved the Emirate Council and sacked the five Emirs sappointed by former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.
Yusuf also approved the return of Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, former Kano Emir, who was deposed in 2020, to the seat.
The abrogated Kano State Emirates Council Law 2019, signed by the then-Governor Ganduje, had created five Emirates – Kano, Bichi, Rano, Gaya and Karaye.
Ganduje, in March 2020, dethroned Sanusi, citing insubordination.
He was replaced by Aminu Ado Bayero, who was transferred from Bichi Emirate, to Kano.
The new law states that all offices created under the repealed law have been dissolved, and district heads appointed or elevated under the law are to revert to their former positions.
The Commissioner for Local Government shall oversee all transitional arrangements, including how to deal with the assets and liabilities of the abolished Emirates and the new structures created under the repealed Principal Law dated 5th December, 2019.
Similarly, all the affected Emirs of the five Emirates have been directed to handover properties in their possessions to the Commissioner of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.(NAN)

Tinubu Orders Review of Governing Boards of Tertiary Institutions
President Bola Tinubu has directed a comprehensive review of the recently announced governing boards of tertiary institutions.
He ordered the review to be done before the inauguration and retreat being planned for the nominees on May 31.
Mr Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday in Abuja.
The Federal Ministry of Education recently released names of nominees for chairmen, Pro-Chancellors and members of the boards and councils of universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.
However, public reactions showed that the nominations did not reflect the federal character of the country as some states got just one nomination, while some others got many.
“In directing a complete review of the list of members, President Tinubu acknowledges the feedback across the country.
“President Tinubu is committed to ensuring strict compliance with the principle of federal character as entrenched in the constitution,” Onanuga said.
He said that the review would also take into consideration national spread and ensure every part of the country is adequately represented.(NAN)

Transition Committee Promises to Reposition Labour Party
The Transition Committee of the Labour Party, on Thursday, promised to reposition it toward becoming a force to reckon with in the Nigeria’s political space.
The Committee Chairman, Mr Abdulwaheed Umar, said this at the official inauguration of the committee put together by the Political Commission of NLC and other stakeholders in Abuja.
Umar, also a former President of Nigerian Labour Congress(NLC), said this on the sideline of the inauguration that the inauguration of the committee marked an end to all LP’s crisis .
“We are going to lay down a very solid foundation so that we can conduct our elections right from the ward to local governments, to states and then the national convention levels.
“We are doing this in preparation for the off-circle elections as well as the 2027 General elections.
“This is because unless you have a party with solid leadership and valid leadership that is transparent you cannot prepare for any election.
“This will prepare us to face the 2027 election especially with a sitting government, it is not is not a tea party,” he said.
Umar added: “It is the hope of the committee that when Nigerians see that Labour Party is on the right path, they will rally around it,” he said.
He added that the party was hopeful of clinching the whole electoral positions in Nigeria, in the absence of which it would emerge as the major opposition party in Nigeria.
He said that to achieve this, the committee would organise congresses from the ward, local government and state levels which would culminate into a national convention.
“The national convention will elect national leaders and we will hand over to them.
“As far as we are concerned, the crisis in Labour Party has ended because Julius Abure is no longer the chairman of the party based on so many things.
“In fact, he has not followed any legal procedure to warrant him to be in the office.
“Therefore we are following this very carefully so that we will take over as much as possible and as peaceful as possible, ” he said.
Umar called on LP members to exercise patience because whatever was happening was temporary as it would end very soon by the grace of God.
Reports says that in March, Julius Abure was elected as the National Chairman of LP during the party’s national convention held in Nnewi Anambra, however, the NLC rejected the convention’s outcome
The transition committee headed by Umar had the task of revitalising the party toward a national convention within 90 days .
Other committee members included Sam Amadi and Abiodun Olamosu appointed as Co-chairmen to work with Omar while Nnawuihe Nwauwa is expected to serve as the secretary.(NAN)
