Justice Sidi Bage (Rtd.), Emir of Lafia, has appointed Alhaji Abubakar Muhammad as the first ‘Zanna Sunoma’, a traditional title for the Lafia Emirate Council.
Bage appointed Muhammad at a ceremony held in Lafia on Monday.
The traditional ruler said the appointment was done in line with the administrative charge of the local government system with its drive to contribute meaningfully to the development of the emirate council.
He said Muhammad had contributed immensely to the emirate council and was revered as a peacemaker.
The Emir, therefore, urged the new Zanna Sunoma to use his wealth of experience to move the council forward by contributing positively to the development of the local government and the state at large.
In his remarks, Muhammad thanked the Emir for finding him worthy to serve the emirate council, and promised not to fail the emir and the entire emirates.
“I will not fail the emir, and I will not fail the entire emirate council.
” I will discharge my responsibilities in the best way I can to justify the confidence reposed on me, and to ensure it is not abused in any way,” he said.
A palace official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the Zanna Sunoma is a traditional title given to someone who is expected to mediate between the Emir and the Madakin Lafia
”He becomes a member of the Emir’s traditional council,” he said. (NAN)
