The Kano State government has charged the 2019 Aiteo finalists, Kano Pillars FC, to work vigorously to bring home the coveted trophy.

Kano Pillars lost to Enugu Rangers in the finals of last year’s edition.

The state government had described the way Pillars gave away a 3-1 lead in the final as unwarranted.

The state Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje represented by his Deputy Dr.

Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, stated this when he visited the players during their morning training session on Thursday at the Sani Abacha Stadium.

He said the visit was to motivate the team ahead of their final clash with Niger Tornadoes in the final of the Aiteo Cup next week.

According to him, the state government is determined to commit the needed resources and support required to propel the Kano side to victory.

He said, “the last time Kano won the cup was 66 years ago and I have confidence that you will make history in Kaduna. Therefore, put in your best and you will emerge victorious.

“I am going to lead a strong team of government officials from Kano to come down to Kaduna and watch the Aiteo Cup Final.”

The governor revealed that the state government has concluded arrangements to set up a continental committee that would prepare and lead the team in its campaign in the  forth coming 2019/2020 CAF champions league.

He commended the players for qualifying to compete in the CAF Champions league.

Earlier, the Chairman, Kano State Sports Commission, Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima, described the visit to the players as a clear demonstration of  the passion the state government has for sports.

Galadima said, “I would like to inform His Excellency that this time around, our players are determined and  committed to see that they do not lose the cup to the hands of their opponent.”

Speaking, the Chairman, Kano Pillars Football Club, Alhaji Tukur Babangida, thanked the state government for settling all the outstanding match bonuses owed the players and assured that they would lift both the Aiteo Cup and CAF Champions league titles.

Kano Pillars Football Club will lock horns with their Niger Tornadoes Counterpart in the Aiteo Cup Final on Wednesday July 24th at Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna.

AIU Drags Tobi Amusan To Court Over Her Alleged Doping Scandal

The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU), are contesting the judgement of the disciplinary panel that cleared Nigerian track and field athlete, Tobi Amusan of doping.

Recall that Amusan was initially temporarily suspended by the AIU in July because she reportedly failed a doping test three times, but two days before the World Athletics Championships in Budapest in August, the Disciplinary Tribunal ruled in Amusan’s favor.

After that, she was unable to retain her world championship in Budapest, finishing 6th in the final, which was won by Danielle Williams of Jamaica.

However, Amusan triumphed in the Diamond League on Sunday, September 17, in Eugene after putting her World Championships woes behind her with a season-best time of 12.

32 seconds.

While it seems she is gradually returning to her best, the AIU has dragged her before the Court of Arbitration for Sport. The AIU claimed in their statement that they have submitted an appeal before the court as they attempt to fault the decision of the Disciplinary Tribunal to clear the Nigerian track and field icon in August.

The statement from the regulatory body which was issued on Monday, September 18, read, “The AIU filed an appeal last Friday (September 15, 2023) with the Court of Arbitration for Sport against the Disciplinary Tribunal’s decision, dated 17 August 2023, that Tobi Amusan did not commit an anti-doping rule violation for Whereabouts Failures.

“The AIU will make no further comment on the matter until the conclusion of the appeal”.

If Tobi Amusan is found guilty, she is likely to be suspended for more than two years and also fined heavily.
